I dropped off my cape at my Taxidermists house yesterday and he told me a guy and his son had been in the day before to see if he could shoulder mount the sons buck. He assured them he could and saked them to bring it in. He has been in buisness for A long time and says that after looking at antlers all day long, all year long, they all start to look about the same to him, but when they brought these in, he knew right away it was a monster. He mounted the Gov. Tag buck a few months ago and said this one was even more impresive. He said it was a typical with brow tines but said it was very wide, he didnt have a tape tyo check before they left with it, but it had mass so big he couldnt get his fingers all the way around it. He sait it held the mass all the way through too and estimated it to be in the 200" range. I believe the record right now is about 202". He is going to mount it and said he would give me a call when it comes in so I can go check it out. I will try to keep everyone updated. I guess they were just walking and it jumped up right in front of them. The 15 year old gut shot it but they were able to track it down and finish it off. It was the kids first deer. He may as well quit hunting in Washington..............rf

Is your taxidermist Garth, my cousin was just down there and garths and telling me about that buck, said it might be new state record. Did he say where they killed it.

By saying "the other day" was that a permit hunt? and where is this taxidermist?

I think a general season hunter, hes over in skagit county. Hes a big time taxidermist.

Garth lives 15 minutes from my house. I heard that he had a buck that he thought would put a run on the state record but I didn't know if it was a muley, blacktail, or whitey. He does some of the best work I have ever seen. He has mounted my deer and I trade him capes for plaque mounts of smaller deer I have killed. He has a hell of a time getting muley capes from eastern Washington. He can buy muley capes from the Rockies from tanners but he says the eastern Washington capes are browner and he tries to mount them as much to original as possible. Nice guy and a big time bear hunter. He likes to hunt bear more than deer. He hasn't killed any good bucks that I know of though. I put my foot in my mouth one day and was looking at a deer he was mounting and I said I was surprised at some of the deer people mount. I said "Like that deer for example I wouldn't even shoot and yet somebody is going to mount it on there wall" and I found out it was his deer. Not good! Hell of a nice guy and he is definitely an artist. If I moved from the area and shot a good animal I would make sure he was the one mounting it. Later,
Shane
