While on my Idaho trip, I came onto this buck and was about to shoot him, but then he turned and looked at me. I put down the pistol, and grabbed my camera.
His main beam had been busted off right above the burr. As you can see, his back tine was broke off, and he had one cheater broke off. I got into a huge 4x4 right above him on the hill that I didn't take a photo of, I was trying to shoot. It was offhand at 50 yards in the brush, and all I had was a head shot. I took two steps to the right, got a rest, and he took one step and was gone. I figured he would come back out because his does were still right there, but about 5 later I saw him sneaking up the hill about 100 yards away. I guess thats why he was big.
I figured it was one hell of a fight. Could you imagine what force it would take. I figured with all of the other damage on the horn that was left, that was probably what happened. Just my guess anyways. If someone shot it off, I bet they are a little pissed right now. I thought it was cool that even with one antler, he was doin' it, and spreading those genes.
Here are the two other bucks I passed on that morning. As you can tell, the three point is highly agitated. He is staring off into the brush where I later killed my Idaho buck. He kept looking there, and at the small four point. I really thought I was going to get to watch them fight, but it never happened.n That four point just wouldn't leave the three alone. The three was a much heavier deer. Sorry for the poor quality, the light was really bad, and my camera was on the outs.
