I alway just measured from the middle of the top of the head between the horns straight up to the highest point.

Do you mean straight to the highest point on the antler or in the air ?

First lay the rack on a flat surface facing toward you.Place something flat on the tips of the G2's or the very back tine to measure up to. Then take a tape and measure from the underside of the base of the antler on the side you're measuring up to the board. The measurement has to be completely vertical. If that doesnt make sense then I'll email you a picture.

Does anybody got a picture or a diagram on how to measure the tallness of your buck ? Let me know and you can send me a email

I don't think there is a "diagram" for this. Just make a "T". The top of the "T" is something flat across the top of the horns. Then measure from the middle of the "T" straight down to the top of the bucks skull plate. That is the "height" of the rack on the deers head.

However, for scoring purposes, there is no "height" measurement. The measurement used is tine length. It means more to me to hear that the buck had "20 inch G-2's" then "He is 25" tall", but to each there own.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Deerking! I have always just been measuring from the top of the skull plate on up. I need to go home and re-measure my buck now! :)

Hey deerking thanks alot thats what i was looking for . You are the deerking . Hey what would be the best measuring tape to score your deer ?

I use a yardstick... :)

I use a non stretching piece of string, start the end of the string at one point on the antler, then pinch the string where the measurement stops on the antler. Then lay the string on solid measuring tape and you'll know how long that particular measurement is. Don't ask me to diagram that :)
Not sure if that answers your question, sure made sense in my mind. Or you can use the type seamstress' use.

Thats how I do it also Jeff, except I use a lenght of cable that you can get in a picture hanging kit from your local hardware store, I find that stuff wont stretch. Then I mark the cable and measure it with a tape measure as I go. B&C rules state a ?" steel tape is to be used but they are a PITA to measure with IMHO.

I've got one last question for you DK. What do you use to measure the outside spread of your bucks? I know that freakin' yard stick ain't even long enough to measure the width on at least one of the the monsters you have taken!

HC,

now that you have the methods, here is a link to saskman's (the "other deerking":)) website. click on the button in the lower left of the homepage and you will find instructions on how to score your buck as well as electronic score sheets.

http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/saskhunting/

be sure to let us know the score.

I know everyone is saying that you measure from the top of the skull plate, but think about it... is measuring from the top of the skull plate the to the tips of the antlers actually measuring the height of the antlers? Or is it measuring the height from the top of the skull plate to the tips? Just thought I'd point that out. That was a good diagram though.
