Knarly Dude: 13 Point Shed

Yesterday, I found another shed off a buck I call Knarly Dude. It is an older shed and looks like it must be from 2000/2001. I was stoked to see the big dropper on it. Same dropper characteristic as my 2003 buck from the same area. I found it only about 150 meters from where I picked up one of his 2002/2003 sheds and about 500 meters from where I found the matched set from 2001/2002. With the knarly bases and short G4 it is easy to see it is off the same buck.

Naw, ain't big enough.

I already did a European of him. Saved the cape though, probably will sell it to help pay for the wolf.

How's your season been? Did ya kill a ram? Any monster muleys to look for in upcoming mags.

Thats awesome that you keep finding the same bucks sheds! Looks like it is in pretty good shape for sitting on the ground up there for as long as it has.

Matt,
I put the tape on it this evening. Only came up with a measly 96 6/8 inches.

His mainbeam is exceptional at 27 inches. Cool to see he carries those long mains every year. His H1 measurement is 5 6/8. His dropper is 10 2/8.
There are at least 2 more of his sheds on that hill. I've covered it and covered it, especially since I found the 18 point shed this spring. Funny how a shed can ellude you for so long eh? Don't know if he is still alive. Have never seen him even though I have hunted the area non stop every year. It is bucks like him that keep me dreamin'.

It would be awesome to see a buck like that running around! Its pretty sad...I shed hunt all year and come up with one shed over 90" and you find sheds on a daily basis that score close to 100"!

Yea, it's kind of messed ain't it? I think I've lost count of how many 90+ inch sheds I've found lately. LOL! Funny, how I used to spend my time shed hunting one local area and pulled hundreds of sheds off of it and never had one over 90. Most were just dinks. Now, I never shed hunt that area anymore. I'd much rather shed hunt my ass off only to pick up a small amount sheds, most being huge, than pick up a truckload of small sheds.

Geez only 90 some odd inches....i dont even see bucks like that in my dreams

. We should plan a trip into there this spring and just comb the whole hillside, with you me and steve looking we could hopefully find those other sheds to add to your collection.

Oh yea, i have my rack back from the taxidermist so i can get it scored. Its a lot easier to compare it to those sheds now as well, but i cant really tell if its one of the bucks we have sheds from or not. My buck has the same browtines as one of the bucks i have sheds from...but last years shed has h1 measurements of only 4.5-5" while my bucks h1's are 6".So i dont know if it could be the same buck? The sheds were picked up 3-400 yards away from where i shot the deer so it would all make sense.

Hi Steve,
How has your season been going? Your Dad told me you took a buck the other week. Seems like you shot him awfully early. You usually wait until the last minute to get the big one. I got a nice four point the other day. I think it is the best deer I have ever got. I was way up in Trepanier and had a lot of work to get him out. He has a 24 inch spread with nice mass and good forks. I don't think I'm going to get up your way this year for a hunt. I went up to Williams Lake with Eric on Nov 11 to 14. We saw lots of deer but they were all does and dink bucks (Eric's term). Take Care!

I saw that you got a real nice buck this year. BCBairdo sent me a pic of it. Congrats!

Been having a great season. Last week I killed a big typical muley that scores 178. Got him in the same area as we took the horses a few years ago. Also killed a nice little LEH muley doe for the freezer and a decent 5X4 whitetail last week. In Oct, I took a nice wolf with Dad and Cody while we were moose hunting in Blue.

How's your Dad feeling? The last time I talked with him he was really tired. I think having Mom with him at home is really getting to him.
Wish I was hunting yesterday. Fresh snow, whiteys rutting!! I think some really good ones have been taken.

Dad's been doing good. As long as he doesn't push it too hard. Having Grandma there is a lot of work and stress for him. Looks like she qualifies for extended care so they are just waiting for a placement for her.
I heard of a few big whiteys taken down there this past week. Haven't seen any pics yet though. You still got a whitetail tag?
I might head down that direction over Christmas to take my wolf to Harley's. Still haven't phoned him to find out how much it's going to cost me. But I really want to get it done. I'll give you a call if we make it done there.

Hey steve. Those are some sweet pics. I to like the ones by the water. Looks to be cooling off prety good where you were. It is cool to finaly put a face to who you are. I am a friend of MattB and SteveB. I grew up in the same town, I only lived about 300 yards from them. Now I live in PG. Sure is good to here that Matt is doing better. Good he did not hit the main artery or it could have been a lot worse than it already was. My friends Joe and Justin from Kamloops said they seen steves truck the next day and it was just a mess. Bad way for steve to break in his new truck. Perhaps some day matt, steve you and I will get out some time. Well, best of luck with your kitty shopping.

Ian met P.Briker sheep hunting and then he came up to Westbank and hunted with him. He got a whitetail and saw some awsome bucks. He went out with Murray J one day - for sure he would of got the best stories. I haven't met him yet. I was in WL when he was there. Those were some great pics you have. Be sure and stop in and give us the stories when you're down at Christmas.
