I just heard on the new's that a hunter somewhere back east was tresspassing in a tree stand that was not his. When confronted by a group of men he opened fire killing 5 and wounding others. He was eventually caught. I'll post more detail's if i can find them. WIERD!!!

It happened in Wisconsin. According to various news sources, the incident occurred on private land. Two hunters were walking back and saw another hunter in one of their unused treestrands. They confronted him and he opened fire, wounding both of them. They were able to call for help from friends who were already at their cabin. As these people came to help, the shooter picked them off. He evidently fled after he ran out of bullets. Someone was able to call authorities for help and they caught him as he tried to escape the woods. He was an Asian hunter using an SKS semiautomatic rifle. Not the typical profile for a midwestern hunter. I suspect there may be more to come on this story.

I just read the article on CNN. Unbelievable! I sure hope they string this nut case up for what he has done. 5 people dead and 3 wounded! It makes me sick to think that someone could be so cruel! He sure hurt a lot of people. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and freinds involved.

Apparently he had been denied access earlier that week and then returned with the SKS to a stand he knew the hunters would walk by......disgusting......too bad Wisonsin soesn't have a death penalty.......

Here's a link to the story in a Milwaukee newspaper. It's a little more detailed than the CNN story. My dad was hunting in northern Wisconsin this weekend. He said everyone is a bit freaked out that something like this could happen. The trespasser/killer was from the twin cities in Minnesota. Thoughts and prayers are with the families involved.

My brother and I were just back there archery hunting a couple weeks ago and this all happened 45 min from where we used to live. That guy is a complete maniac! Not to mention the crappy press it gives to our hunting community. What a joke!

What a tragic story. I feel so bad for the friends and family of the victums. My prayers are with them all!

The story on CNN this morning makes it sound like this guy accidentally wandered on to the private land because he was lost. On one of the posts above, there is a claim stating that the guy had been asked to leave the day before and came back seeking vengeance. There seems to be a discrepancy here. The difference in stories aside, he was carrying an SKS. Just out of curiousity, has anyone ever hunted with an SKS before? I know that no one in my family has ever used on except for recreational target shooting. Can anyone fill me in on how effective a weapon like this might be in a deer hunting situation?

An article in this mornings Deseret News may answer a few of your questions regarding the SKS issue. Evidently it's not uncommon to hunt with it in that area of the States. http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,595107365,00.html

It would be interesting to know what words were exchanged between the hunters and Mr. Vang prior to the shooting. I certainly believe This guy needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But I'm not so sure the hunters chose their words as carefully as they should have while facing a man with an assult rifle. Life is worth more than a deer hunt in my opinion.

I too feel sympathetic for the family and friends of the dead victims. What a tragedy.

Paper this morning stated that when he was confronted and told to leave, that he came down from stand and started walking away and taking his scope off the rifle. After that he turned around and started firing till he emptied his 20 round clip and then left the area. When two other hunters found him, he told them he was lost and they took him to the police.
So how accurate this is will not be known for awhile I'm sure.
Vang has had problems in the past with police and family problems.
