This is a buck my buddy havested this year on a leftover tag. I thought you all would enjoy this. Just goes to show you don't have to hunt a trophy unit to take a trophy buck. Hard work and dedication compensates for everything. Get away from the crowds and roads and you can EARN a trophy buck the hard way if you put in the appropriate time like most true hunters!!! Any guess what he goes?? I know!!

Please don't tell me it was Unit 72/73 3rd season rifle. I applied for a refund and just rec'd my $300 back this week. Unfortunately I couldn't muster the nearly $2k is was going to take to do a DYI hunt travelling all the way from Alaska. [had to rebuld the tranny in my truck instead.]

I know, I'm pathetic - coulda, woulda, shoulda. I was a third choice hunt, so I didn't lose my boner points. Next year, tho!!!!!!

If it was indeed Units 72/73, tell him he's welcome!

Very nice rack and huge body.

What part of Colorado. Public land or private. Just looking for some inspiration.

Taken in Northwest Colorado 2nd season. Hunted on public land. Lots of hunters just went a little farther and deeper than most people will go and that is what it took!

I have to disagree with getting away from crowds and roads and hard work and all that. All that pertains to a successful hunt is being in the right place at the right time. ;-)
Great buck!

I would disagree with that. Yeah you might occasionally get lucky and find a bruin in a hard hunted area. But big bucks get big by staying away from hunters. You'll increase your odds. Thats why so many monster bucks are on private land and in the high country....Less hunting pressure!

Sneakem,
Very nice buck. Long main beams, strong G2's and looks like not much for deductions. Doesn't have to be a 30+incher to score well and has good fork depth with average mass. Probably scores somewhere arond gross 187.
