i took this buck in the same quarter section that i have taken about other deer. the one that i took two years ago and the one my uncle took out of there last year have the same genes. well on this buck i was rushing to my little "honey hole" trying to get to a good look out spot before dark. i was still huffin and puffin after the 2 and a half mile jog. when i got to the saddle i wanted to look at. i only had about 20 minutes of light left and didn't see anything right off the bat so as i was heading over the ridge to another good mesa i had stopped to catch my breath and just happened to take one last look behind me like i always try to do. right then about 200 yards out i say a big bodied deer. i sat my 270 on my shooting sticks and all i saw were antlers. at the same time up to his right i saw a bigger bodied deer but he walked right into the sun and i was starting to lose clarity in my scope. so i put my crosshairs back on the ten point, aimed behind the shoulder and tried to squeeze it off(still breathing hard from hike up there). then bam.thwack. sounded good. when i found him in my scope again he was still standing there just facing the opposite way. i was like damn i had better have not missed this one. as i was about to shoot again he dissapeared into the trees and i heard some rocks crash. after tracking him down he hadn't gone but 10 ft. the weird thing about it was that he fell under the same tree that i dropped a big 6 point 2 years earlier. getting him out was another story. after a good drag it was into a wheelbarrow 2.5 miles back to the truck. fun huh.
goes to show that big bucks are where you find them and once you find them in a certain place go back again and you'll have a chance of finding them there again.

Congrats on a great hunt ! I have two daughters and they both love the outdoors , both shoot bows at 3-d shoots all summer long , so I really love these pictures . My 12 year old will take her hunter safety course class this year and she'll put in for antelope and deer , I already daydream about it . I drew a 2B January bow hunt , just a month away now , and that unit has gotten good snow , so its looking real good , already very ecxited , and your pictures just added to the fire , thanks for sharing......NMhuntnutt
