I've been hunting elk in Az for 5 years now and have been lucky enough to shoot 4 elk, 3 with a bow and one with a rifle. I have hunted in three different units and have made a minimum of 3 scouting trips to each one before the season. The first thing I do is exactly what you are doing, picking peoples brains. Then I get topo maps of the unit and look for the water in areas I think I might want to hunt. On my scouting trips the first thing I do is check the water tanks, if they are being used(elk tracks are hard to miss) then I scout that area further, especially when they start bugling in early Sept. They are much easier to locate then. Also check the Game and Fish website under the "Where to hunt" section. That may give you some ideas on where to go. I have never hunted unit 10 but the steps I have given, along with a lot of walking, have helped me greatly with my success. Good luck.
