She had a great time, this is how I found this site. The next morning she was here, looking on how to get the next one! She had shot a doe a couple of days earlier but this was her first buck. This was her first year deer hunting, but she has went pheasant hunting with me for about 3 years now. We have a great time, we also fish every chance we can. Thanks

Congratulations on the two bucks.

Question for the spouse. What peaked your interest to pursue hunting. Are you know more hard-core than your husband now. Or is it balanced with mutual interest.

This year I am focusing on my wife getting into bowhunting with me and she is getting excited about getting a bow and begin target shooting and then accompany me into the hills for her first hunt. I have several spots with two treestands so I thought it would be fun to involve her with my passion for hunting too.

Can you shed some light on your introduction to getting more involved with hunting. Was it coaxed by your husband or what sparked your interest?

My wife is grew up with father hunting but has been a city girl since. With my last four years devoted to bowhunting deer and elk she seems to be willing to give it a try.

Any suggestions or comments?

Again congratulations. Sounds like your both going to have many stories to tell over the years.

Congrats to the both of you on your deer hunts this year and also that the BOTH of you have the same interests, that being hunting & fishing.
Rik, you better treat her good, she is everyones dream, a wife who loves the outdoors and hunting, fishing etc.
Hope that the two of you have many more trips into the outdoors.

Thanks for the pics! Congratulations on a great season!

I am in the same boat as you Gary, except I've given up hope of sparking my wifes interest in it! Oh well, I like hunting alone or with a "buddy" and my daughters will and do accompany me!

Thanks everyone. I am indeed lucky, having her enjoy the outdoors as much as I do. The key was to get her the gear that kept her comfortable, as I said it took me about 3 years to get her to shoot a deer. She didn't mind shooting the birds, but then deer was a diffrent story. Know she hunts just as hard as I do. I think I was more excited about her shooting her buck then she was. Thanks again.

This is Stephanie, Rik's wife - Thank you for all of the kind words of encouragement and the warm welcome!

re: GW4BOW's post:
>What peaked your interest to pursue hunting?
i hunted deer with my dad when I was a teenager but wasn't serious then. In the past few years I started spending more time going fishing & bird hunting with Rik. I went along deer hunting last year and realized that I had caught the bug- I wanted to be hunting myself but didn't feel confident yet with a rifle and scope. We spent a lot of time this summer and fall on the range, which really helped my confidence. Also, Rik made sure that I got a rifle that fit me well and good boots and gear.

> Are you know more hard-core than your husband now. Or is it balanced with mutual interest.
I am definitely not as hard core as my husband, but I'll be honest getting a good buck for my first one really enforced my
desire to continue hunting.

I think that's a great idea!

I hope i covered that okay above- honestly, I can't pin down what exactly started it...I have had a great time going along fishing and hunting - and of course it's always more fun when you can do it yourself. Rik never pushed me but always encouraged me, which I think is the most important part.

>My wife is grew up with father hunting but has been a city girl since. With my last four years devoted to bowhunting deer and elk she seems to be willing to give it a try.
Good for her - I really enjoyed it and found it relaxing. If only we could live like that every day!

>Any suggestions or comments?
I think again the most important part is that you want her to try it and are being supportive. I never would have started if Rik hadn't been there to help me out, picking out a gun, etc.

>Again congratulations. Sounds like your both going to have many stories to tell over the years.
=)
Thank you, you and everyone have been really nice. I hope that I have been of some help; let me know if I can answer any other questions.
I'm thrilled with my hunt this year and can't wait for next year!
