Camp Williams Buck Down

For those of you who have been watching the bucks out south of Camp Williams you might notice that the big high, heavy buck with the weak forks isn't there tomorrow, he is dead. Today I drove by at about 4:30 P.M. and saw a sheriff truck out in the upper dirt field, just east of SR-68 and in front of his truck was the buck. I'm not sure if someone tipped him over, or if he got hit by a car, but he was pretty far from the road if he got hit by a car and his rack was still intact. I passed the F&G about another half mile down the road. I wish I knew what happened to him, if anyone has heard anything post it here.

It is one of my favorite places to watch deer. I have watched this buck since October. I sure hope that he wasn't poached, although I think that is probably what happened, since the location is not where he would have got hit by a car.
All these "slobs" who keep shooting deer out of season, need to be stopped.

Dub,
Different buck, different military installation.

When I passed the F&G I figured it had to have been poached, but with all the traffic on that road I can't believe someone could pull it off and not get caught.

Rut

The non-typical is probably going down too if it is legal to shoot a rifle over there. Go governer's tags!!! Best idea ever for the common hunter.

When i drove home from work and could not believe that i saw a nice buck with a dropper. I was wondering if i saw this buck all winter last year but i want to know what happens to this buck and yeah, i think mossback crew knew what happens to it cuz they were there nearby. tell us if you know!

I read on another site that someone talked to a trooper and he told them the deer was hit by a car and the DWR has the rack. Sucks that it died, but atleast some dirtbag didn't poach it.

Rut

I heard the same story as the original post about the time of day and cop situation. The story came from a non-hunter. He had made some calls inquiring to the cause of death.

I honestly cannot imagine anyone being stupid enough to shoot a deer at that location at 4:00 pm. Then again, I cannot imagine someone to be as stupid as to poach a buck that has graced the internet for a year and taking it to the fish cops to be scored.

The Camp Williams area is watched closely. I know the farmers that own the ground and believe me, they watch it closely. If a gun was fired around there, you would be approached. I would tend to believe, as was stated, it was a car accident and not a "damn slob poacher."

I got to see these deer a few days ago. Nice deer, not monsters, but very nice.

KTC,
How well do you know the land owners? I tried to send you a PM, but your box is inactive.

Rut

My pm should work. Try again.

I know the guy who runs the one farm. I am really good friends with the other farmer.

I do know one thing. They are very protective of their ground. Neither will let someone poke around unattended.

Everything was disabled. Not sure how or why that happened, but I undisabled it. PM should work now.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-10-04 AT 10:55PM (MST)[p]Hmmm?

The plot thickens.

Anyone who watched the channel 4 news seen the governors tag buck. He is a dandy as near as I could tell. The ones that got ran over pale in comparison to this bad boy. The news stated the tag holder from Texas is "on his way."

These landowners were interviewed and the one that owns the ground looks to be giving a green light. I would not have guessed that. The other one was pissed, but the buck is not on his ground.

I hope that buck sees the chain link around Camp Williams and gets his ass on the other side of it. Unless of coarse it was my tag. ;-) Due to the proximity of this buck, I would wonder about the legalities of shooting a rifle in this area. Subdivisions are less than a mile away. So is the military "headquarters." Beyond that is the Garden's and Golf Course at Thanksgiving Point.

The story should be intersesting and the buck is big.

KTC,
I thought maybe you were hiding from the law (maybe you still are).

I drove by there today and the F&G had the buck that got hit in the back of his truck. It was the dropper buck. He was alright, but upclose and personal he wasn't as big as I thought he was. Ofcourse I didn't have my camera, there were quite a few people there taking pics of it in the truck, maybe one of them will post a pic here.

Rut

I guess half the state knows about this already, I might as well throw in my two cents. The buck that they are after is a 10 X 11. According to Doyle Moss it should score right around 230". I have had some good looks at his buck and he is impressive! With all of the pressure though I think he is going to disappear. As for the Gov's Tag, Doyle was there briefly yesterday looking at the deer, but was not around today. I went down there this evening. All I saw was a 27-28" threee point. I think the big boy is catching on!

I think half the state knew about it week days ago. The deer is probably catching on. The road looks like a church parking lot on Sunday each evening.

These are the deer we grow in Utah when the deer live on a military base that is closed (See Freetos). This will bring some bad publicity. I would bet that deer is just north of where the news had shown him. There are little hills, ravines, and tall sage brush patches down there drooping into the river. He isn't leaving, only leaving in the back of Doyles truck. If they open the gate to the east side of the cop track, that deer is toast.

If you would like to watch, take the walkway along the river, about a mile, through the golf course.

I heard, a rumor, don't know if it is true, but a lady that works on Camp stated the military is going to push him with a helicopter. Apparently they like the buck as they did out to Tooele. Guess we will see. I have been chased by an Apache before and they will make you run. ;-)

I don't have a gripe with the tag itself. I have a little concern about the location, publicity, and the people that will be there. I wouldn't have the balls to gun him down in that situation. It is an ass chewing waiting to happen.

I have not seen this whopper yet. I hope to before he gets dumped or moves on. Don't sound like he can hide to well out there though. I thought that the Moss crew was done with guided hunts for the Gov. tags? I'm sure I remember that was on his website. Explaining that there isn't enough money in it for all the spotters, landowners access fees, and what not. I guess that has changed? I got a laugh out of the farmer that didn't have a problem with the hunt and the farmer who did? I can imagine there being different attitudes from both depending on what side of the fence the buck is on. Can you say BIG BUCKS for a big buck?

Yeah guys, I finally found it this morning and took me four days to find it and found it this morning. This is whopper buck still out there and only you need to be a lot of patience to find it. Good Luck governor tag owner!

I am thinking of going down there today and selling hotdogs and cotton candy. That place is an absolute circus!! I drove by there yesterday, just like I do every other day except yesterday there were about 8 trucks parked along the road all with spotting scopes out on tripods, 2 or 3 people per truck scanning the hills with binocs and little kids running all over the place -- it was worse than Yellowstone. If anyone comes by today, I will be the one in the dinner jacket providing the valet parking service (oh and don't forget to tip your waitress).

Rut

I heard rumor that the buck they showed on the news was hit by a dump truck yesterday (Saturday) morning. Anyone else heard this?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-12-04 AT 05:23PM (MST)[p]You are on to something RC.

Let me run up to Flirts and grab some nasty women who will serve beverages in bikinis. :) Lets go with soda cocoa, and hot totties. Paint parking stripes in the snow so you can pack them in better. You have an eye for business.

I am less than a mile away and do not care to be a participant in this mess. The deer would be fun to see, but not in this environment.

So, did Geneva Rock get him? Or, the Texan?

He is still alive and well. I dont think that he's in a lot of trouble of getting taken. He's been pretty good at staying on Camp and its looking like he might head in a little deeper before too long. By the way, how come there are no pictures of him posted yet??? Camp has some great deer that never get close enough to the border for the public to see. A couple of years ago there was a 30+ incher that would let you drive right up to him.

this buck is not going to be shot by the Gov tag holder...heard it straight from the horses mouth...
Later, Brandon

I admit it. I went out this morning and looked. Never saw the buck, but you should see the people on Camp looking for him. Your tax dollars at work. ;-)

I heard the same thing Browtine.

I was thinking. Wouldn't it be better this guy shoots him rather than get ran over? He will get ran over.

sad to see those bucks getting hit by cars...I havent seen this buck... I hope he lives a few more years. I am also suprised pictures havent been posted yet. KTC...you live right next to him...Your incharge of getting us pics :)
Later, Brandon

I don't think it is too great of an idea to post pictures of this buck all over the web. Look what happened to the Tooele Buck. No need in tempting the masses.

Browtine,

I actually heard of a guy who got some photos. Let me see what I can do.

I also hear there is a 30" main frame 11X10, and, a 34" 4 point. 230"?

I might run out in the morning and see if I can lay eyes on these bad boys. It is pretty quiet in the mornings, or, it was today. Maybe I can do a Kodak/spotting scope photo?

You know, putting the photos all over the web is not a bad thing. That little dink that shot Freeto got his ass busted because of it. I hope they don't get hit by a car.

manny, this governor's tag thing can be debated hottly from both sides. I don't have an answer. My concerns were from bad publicity. For one guy to put $75k into wildlife is good. I won't debate the tag issue because it is a sensitive one with no one right answer.

I decided to take a ride out last night. I figured a hot dog and a drink served by the Flirts girls sounded good. Maybe some cotton candy for my daughter, after all, it was family night.

It was a disappointing trip. I didn't see the deer, I didn't see RuttCrazed selling cotton candy or hot dogs, and I didn't see KTC and the Flirts girls serving beverages. I hope there is a good explanation. :)

I did see lots of people, and did get to socialize. There was also a parade. It took place on the road below the cop track, and included a truck, then the sheriff, and the land owner taking up the rear. To end the evening I was treated to a quick look into next year's rifle hunting fashion by a male model in head to toe flourescent orange. I'll have to add those to my gift list.

I was just glad to see Hart's was still open so I could get my hot dog. All is well that ends well.

LOL............

I went out this morning. 3 babies and one mid 20 buck. It sure was quiet considering the situation. No landowners, only state and county workers. I guess they had some road repair work out that way today. ;-)

Sorry SoreButt, but I pick up women like I spot and hunt deer, never too successful. Oh ya, my wife might casterate me with a truck full of bar flies and beer. Bad, bad, combination.

Maybe the problem with seeing "the buck" was the punkin dressed in orange. Deer are not stupid. Maybe he saw the orange clad ditz and stayed hid. Who knows. Or, perhaps, he was taking safety seriously and did not want to take a Texas heart shot from the Texan.

Sorry SaddleSore, it is all KTC's fault. I showed up at his house to pick him and the Flirtz girls up and apparently one of the girls had a wardrobe malfunction and by the time I fixed it KTC had already eaten all the hotdogs and cottoncandy and drank all the beer! My profit margins were already razor thin and this little setback may cause me to close the doors for good. I will keep you updated.
