AZ DEER RUTTING??

Not from what I've seen. I was over there yesterday poking around a bit. Saw a few medium bucks (muleys), but they were alone so far. Saw lots of does without a buck larger than a small forked horn hanging around. My guess is they'll start right around the 1st, as usual. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info. Do you hunt the northern part of the state or the southern end? A buddy of mine is hunting the December hunt and he saw just one shooter buck so far and he was hanging around one doe. So, yeah it may be just the early stages yet.

I was down south this weekend and didnt see obvious rut activity. I only saw a couple muleys and around 25 coues deer. The coues bucks were alone so that was a good sign. Thanks, Allen Taylor......

I was up in unit 21 and saw 2 big bucks with two different groups of does, I got a shot at one, a 4x3 with his nose right behind a doe.

I was in 21 on sunday and saw a stud with 6 does. Too bad I didn't have time for a stalk. Hopefully I can find him again this weekend a little earlier though. Not very wide 21" but about 30" tall.

I just got back from a quick afternoon trip in 20A and seen a nice sized 3x3 with 7 does!

I have been doing some archery hunting in mid northwestern az and the bucks are definately rutting, my buddies and i saw a good fight between two bucks and nearly every group of does had bucks with them. Hope that helps.

I've been fortunate this year to glass deer from my back yard patio and have seen a couple of toads each with his own heirdom
of does. I spotted the larger 4x4 about 2 weeks ago from my bedroom window. I spotted the other yesterday and got him on film. In my 9 year old sons own word when he saw him thru the Doctors "Daing, I wish we had a tag". I will be getting us a tag first thing next year. Those bad boys have necks swollen to do some battle, I'll post some pics if I can get them on a still cam.

I spent the weekend in So AZ and YES they're rutting big time down there, Not just "running"with the does if you catch my drift. This is the earliest I've seen the full blown rut in several years. Might be due to the better water year than the last few years in addition to the colder than normal temps. We saw three real nice 4x4s a shooter 3x4 and a few decent whitetails. Couldnt make it happen though. Real cold and windy most of the weekend.

were are you hunting in 21 i got drawn for rifle and saw nothing but spikes and 2 points i saw some nice ones scotting i was hunting about 5 miles past the big camp ground seven springs almost to the big ranch on the right side the road i hunt is really rocky and rough and long if you see a red rock buggy used to be suzuki samurai with 37 tires ill be there all this weekened

WELL, MY HUNTING PARTNER AND I HAVE HUNTED 8 HARD DAYS IN UNIT 10 AND HAVEN'T SEEN MUCH AS FAR AS RUT ACTIVITY. THE HEAVY SNOWFALL HAS HELPED WITH TRACKING, BUT HAVE ONLY CAUGHT UP TO DOES AND YEARLINGS, NO DECENT BUCKS!! I HAD TWO OPPORTUNITIES TO TAKE FORK HORNS, BUT PASSED ON BOTH. THE LAST GOOD BUCK WE SAW WAS THE LAST DAY OF THE '04 SEASON, MY BUDDY HARVESTED A DECENT 2X3 THAT MORNING. (WILL TRY TO POST A COUPLE OF PICS WHEN I GET BACK HOME) THE BUCK I SAW WOULD HAVE GONE APPROX. 26-27", DECENT MASS WITH OK FORKS. HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND HIM SINCE. I'M THINKING THAT THE RUT IS DONE, AT LEAST UP NORTH. HOW HAVE THINGS BEEN GOING DOWN IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE STATE?

Coues and muleys are ruttin' in central Az. Watched a nice 4x3 muley chase around some does the other day while the little bucks just stood there and watched. Also starting to see some grande coues in the open during daylight. The bucks are with the does. Medicine bow, did you see any really big elk or antelope in 10?

Tinman,

Didn't see any antelope in 10, but saw A LOT of elk. We saw approx. 50-60 bulls. One bull we saw would go at least 370 maybe pushing high 380's. Several 300 bulls and a few 340-350 class bulls. Didn't have much access to the ranches up north. My buddy called the owner of the Perrin ranch and he said that he sustained too much road damage during the OCT/NOV. hunts and the ranch was closed to all vehicles, although walk-in hunting was permitted; this year. It didn't sound to promising for those ranches to ever be open again to hunting after this year according the owner of the Perrin ranch. I guess only time will tell. That would be very disappointing. Alot of good hunting on those ranches.
