The Christmas season was good to me and brought me a new 270. Now I am looking for some bullet recomendations. Lets hear them.

I use to use federal 130 grain sierra gameking or High Shok which worked great, now I use Remington 140 grain core lokt ultra which do great on deer and are very accurate.

I assume that you are talking about bullets for taking mule deer since you are posting in this forum. Any quality bullets from 130-150 should do. If longer shots are possible, I would opt for 130 or 140 gr. Personally I shoot 140 grain hornady light magnums because they shoot 1/2" groups out of my gun. Tried the new Hornady light magnum 130 grain Interbond, which should hold together better, but they didn't shoot as accurately. The interbond bullet advertizes that it never, ever seperates the jacket from the core, so it should work well. The 140 grain uses an Interlock bullet, which is roughly comparable to the core-lokt from remington. It tends to come apart when it runs into heavy stuff, but it has never failed me in the field.

I am sure that you are going to get more posts for this than Carter has pills. :)

I suppose it depends on if you reload or are using factory ammo.

Personally I reload and use Speer 150gr SPBT. They are flat shooting and I can get 3/4" groups at 200-yards. They'll drop a deer or elk without any problem.

just my $0.02

I don't know that there is a "poor bullet" in the 130-160 grain range in .277 caliber manufactured today. Pick several factory loads, and a wider selection if you handload, and see what groups best in your rifle.

Personally, I've had good results with the 140 gr Fail Safe, 130 gr Sierra GameKing, 140 gr Hornady Interlock, 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, and the 130 & 150 gr Nosler Partitions.

Good Luck & enjoy your new rifle.

I've had good luck with Hornadys 140 gr. B.T.S.P. @ about 2950 f.p.s.. For the money great pick. If you have intentions to include larger species I would would check out 130-140 gr. barns x bullets, or if you have realy deep pockets you could try a bullet from Lost River Ballistic Technologies 135 gr. j36. The B.C. is .649 on paper you could about duplicate 7mm Mag. down range ballistics. I have no personal experance with this previous bullet but have herd good things. I guess what it boils down to is any .277 bullet in the 130-150gr. range from a reputable manufacturer that shoots accurately in your rifle would do just fine.

Hornady 130gr Light Mag Interbond for Muleys - very impressed with this load from my rifle.

150gr Noslers for Elk - all about shot placement, but all the bulls I've killed were one shot kills with this load.

My $0.02 ;)

Barnes Triple Shok-This bull took a 130 gr in the lungs. He did pretty well as far as stamina but the bullet performed perfectly, had perfect expansion, and it was found just below the hide on the opposite side. I use Barnes in my muzzle guns as well and I always find them on the opposite side with a high retention, and a beautiful mushroom. I have also had good success with Noslers but recently switched to the triple shok. There you go, another opinion. www.monstermuleys.info/dcforum/User_files/41d5650f0efd4fef.jpg

I've had great results with 130 gr. Nosler partitions, and 130 gr. Swift A- Frames. The last deer I took I was using the 130 gr. Sierra Boatails which is more of a target round, I found the bullet in the buck and the jacket completely seperated from the core. I would not use the Sierra Boatails again, but it did do it's job. Enclosed is a picture showing the Swift A-Frame on the right, and the Sierra Boatail on the left. Note the weight retention and the perfect mushroom on the Swift A-Frame.

I am new to loading the .270, but since friends and I have had great success with the Accubond in a variety of cartridges, I think I will start there. They have proven to be accueate and have exceptional on game performance. mtmuley
