Looking again maybe he's a bit bigger than I first thought. Once they get out that far it's hard for me to tell.

Either way I'd let the air out of him. The sage is where it's at boys.

If 28" is close to forty, then he is close to forty. I think he is 28 give or take an inch. Handsome buck.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-05 AT 07:54PM (MST)[p]I think he's closer to 31" than 40". He is well past his ears no doubt.. I've included a picture of a buck we took this year for reference. He was 30-1/4" wide.

The only reason I think he wouldn't go thirty is the size of his ears. This buck has smaller, cup-shaped ears than average ears for a mulie in my opinion. What a handsome buck though. He looks just like the faces that Dave Wade used to draw and paint on big bucks.

I'll say that's a 27-&1/2" to a 28" frame. Adding the extra on his right side takes him to around 29&1/2". I can't tell what the trash on his right side is doing. He could end up 31" if the points on the right antler extend past the main frame. Regardless of measurements, it's a great deer by my standards!

That's funny Buckspy. I have one on my wall that tapes at 36" and this buck has more space between the end of his ears and the outside of his rack than it does, cuppish, small ears or not. I'm pretty sure I know that 28" isn't 40" since I also have mounts of bucks that are 28, 30 and 32. Even if this buck's ears are 22" wide there are more than 4" of rack on either side. I'll see if I have a better head on shot to post.

Thanks Steve. My brother took that buck in New Mexico. That rig is his as well. He was contimplating on selling it.

Yea im with these guys, that bucks gotta go at least another 4"s a side to hit the 40 mark. Killer buck though man. 31 1/2 - 33 is my guess.

OK, I'll attribute his smaller than anticipated size to film shrinkage instead of ground shrinkage. I take it all back. By the way, this buck and the other in my other posts are all within sight of where Eastman capped his buck this year.
