Kind of like wife swapping yet different.
I have asked Brian to make a hunt swap forum for a while. I think it would be a good idea. It has been very succesfull on other web sites. What do you think ? Anybody out there willing to offer a hunting or fishing trip in exchange for something ? Lets hear em.
BB

I will swap a sandhill crane hunt for a big horn sheep hunt or mule deer hunt with a chance for a book buck.
Also would be willing to give up a 2 day sevier river carp fishing trip in exchange for a coues hunt with 100"+ bucks.
Also would swap wife for a sandhill crane hunt or a two day carp fishing trip.

LOL. And I will swap a snipe hunt for a 200+ mule deer hunt!

Seriously though, I have also had good luck with swap hunts on other forums as well as making contacts on this forum. I for one, would welcome a swap forum.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-05-05 AT 02:33PM (MST)[p]Since I only hunt public lands, I really couldn't participate, but I certainly would love to see the hunts get swapped.

Why not public land ? As long as money wasn't be exchanged ( wink, wink ) there would be nothing wrong with it. I can exchange a good bear hunt for something. It's the only thing I really have sucess with. I know this ain't Monster Bruins dot com but what the heck. Good color phase, some B&C bears have been taken over the years. Your turn.

Great Idea. I'd swap valuable information on elk and deer hunts here in utah for any valuable info on elk and deer hunts in any of the western states. I know of units that can be drawn here in utah with few points that produce trophy deer and elk.

1I've swapped a couple hunts over the years but haven't quite gotten to the point of offering up my wife! The couple of swap hunts I've traded opened up new possibilities that I would otherwise could not have afforded or had the experience to do on my own.

As all of you know there are quite a few "off season" months in the West where nothing much is going on and those are great times to experience new hunts in other locations. I've conducted swaps from Texas to Alaska to Quebec and they were all incredible experiences. It was also a great way of sharing experiences with other outdoor finatics that were very knowledgeable about hunts in their neck of the woods!

There are a couple spooky things associated with swaps. If you hunt public land and have spent much time hiking, scouting, and hunting a particular "honey hole", there is nothing that can legally keep the guy you took (and 5 of his buddies) from returning to your secret hunting grounds. I have always told guys I have taken to respect this just as I respect his hunting spot. As you all know, it doesn't take much to spoil some of these hotspots!

It can also be fairly difficult figuring out what swaps are comparable in value, time, and expense! There are only so many weeks or even days to hunt game each fall and it can also be tough finding time to give your undivided attention to someone else!

Lately I've had more than enough hunts close to home to keep me busy so I haven't exchanged hunts. I'd probably jump at another chance if the right hunt came along. There are a lot of great hunters out there that I'm sure would have a great time exchanging hunt opportunities!

TCR1: As stated, just because you hunt on public land doesn't mean you don't have anything to swap. I have a family ranch in Texas I take people on, but the hunts I have swapped for have been on public land. I have been to Alaska, Montana, and Colorado and all hunts have been on public land. You take it for granted, but knowing "where" to hunt on public to have a decent chance for success is what you have to trade. Especially if you have the tent, etc set up when they get there and serve as an unpaid "guide".

Fatrooster, I dont have a picture to post but she is one of those bikini cut girls they was talking about on another post.

I suggested this to the Founder last year, and I still support the idea. There are all sorts of ways it can work, both public and private. I'm not convinced the wife part of the swap will be beneficial in the long run, but I'd love to see the bikini pics! LOL

Thanks for the input fellas. There is a really big bull I want to remove and then I would like to swap for a bear hunt...haha. I can't swap a hunt into my favorite spot until I get that demon out of there. I have been concentrating my efforts on trying to figure out how he developed an aniti-arrow force field without an opposable thumb or even fingers. Hopefully I get it figured out before this September.

I think it's a great idea also.
There are a ton of great hunters/outdoors people on this site that have a wealth of info and access to trophy game, just like many guides/outfitters do. The beauty of a swap is that those of us that don't have the money to give to guides/outfitters can trade hunts and info with others that don't have deep pockets. In most instances all that you pay for is the tag and transportation, works out great for both sides.

Sounds interesting, I would be interested too. In addition to hunts, I could trade Salmon, Steelhead or Stureon fishing as well. In fact, we have been knocking the steelhead dead so far this winter, heading down again this weekend. Sturgeon are best in the spring to early summer months and salmon are good about the same time with late summer getting good also............rf

I have done several swap hunts and had very good luck with them. It allows you to hunt in places that you might not be able to come up with $$$ to hunt in that area. Also you gain the friendship of your fellow hunters. Swap Hunts Work! I would like to see more of them.

So let's here some of what you want and what you have to offer. Like I said I have a pretty good bear hunt in Colorado, spot and stalk type, no bait or hounds. I'm up for anything. I'd really like to find some good pheasant hunting. My dad and I love bird hunting but Colorado is a little short on them. Ducks or geese would be cool too.

Sounds like a great idea to me. I have always thought that for this to be successful you would have to trade value for value.

I have always wanted to call in some of of those eastern gobblers in the spring. I might be willing to trade a 3 day archery javelina hunt in January (MLK weekend)for a spring turkey hunt. Out here in AZ, you can even buy an over the counter archery deer tag and hunt them at the same time as the pigs. You can even hunt quail too. The weather this time of the year can't be beat either.

Good hunting

LAST EDITED ON Jan-07-05 AT 10:46AM (MST)[p]Will trade P-Dog shooting for whatever that's worth! Maybe a trophy Grasshopper hunt or something. :D

I know I saw a request from somebody in the classifieds last year wanting to trade MO turkey hunt for some p-rat blasting. If my spring wasn't so busy to begin w/ I would've responded. Never did get around to it.

OSOK, you might be surprised what a good p-dog shoot is worth, I own an Inn near San Diego and have swapped winter lodging for access to private land and to someone just willing to take me thru the basics on public land in his state, no honey holes , its just easier when you don't have time to properly scout.

anybody want to fish the great lakes walley perch large and small mouth bass?

IF YOUR GOING TO BE A BEAR BE A GRIZZLY BEAR!
Skunkterd,
I will swap you that for a guaranteed 30 incher in Idaho no matter what it takes!

Dude, that's just sick.......I agree with the swap hunt idea also. I'm involved in one now where I took a couple of guys elk hunting and in return I'm headed to Kansas next year for whitetails. I will say one thing though, it's very nerve racking to bring people all the way across the country sometimes with expectations to fill a tag for a lot of money being spent. So make sure your scouting is done and you have back up plans. Thankfully one of the guys tagged a nice 5 pt bull, and the other missed another good branch bull the same day, so I was glad they had opportunities.

I'd definitely do it again and would offer several things in trade this time around. I have access to some of the best salmon and ocean fishing on the W.Coast at my fingertips. I live on the coast and have three boats to work from. 28', 21, and a driftboat. Typical salmon days in the summer average between 10-35 fish days, easy limits of bottomfish, and occassionally halibut and tuna when the weather is cooperating. I'd also give out a spring bear for up to two people in '06. Almost a 100% opportunity there with seeing up to 6 a day sometimes. ODFW has just extended the spring season 2 weeks so that's going to improve the hunt dramatically. I'd do it this year, but I have a baby due in May, so it kinda puts me on house arrest from April into June.
