Thinking about making a trip to Wyoming this fall. I live in South Alabama and we don't have very many deer with any size. Has anybody hunted in the walk-in areas? Is there alot of huntng pressure? Do you see many mulies? What about the Hunter Mangement areas?

Sorry for so many questions at once. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Good Morning Stuffer

We hunted a couple of walk-in areas in NE WY last fall for one day. Didn't shoot any, but did see four small bucks we passed on. The Hunter Management Areas are better I'm sure, but there weren't any in Region B where we hunted. Quality will really vary a lot from area to area, but they do appear to get a fair amount of pressure. There is lots of other public land. You can get a BLM map for the entire state showing ownership of every section of land in WY. Would be helpful in deciding which tags to apply for.

I live in the southeast part of Wyoming. Avoid the walk in areas. They get HAMMERED. They are mostly marinal habitat for deer in our area. I'd go elsewhere and go on BLM or forest service lands or pay a trespass fee, but I would not drive here to hunt walk-in areas.

Good hunting.

pulled this buck out of a managment area walk in hunt in 2003 on opening morning, We parked just past some campers, walked over the hill, and shot this buck, within sight of about 5 other hunters, killed a 32 inch buck in the same area in 2000, within sight of about 12 trucks, and who knows how many other hunters on the last day of season. Theres alot of pressure, so someone is bound to get lucky but make sure you have some backup land to hunt just in case.
