I'll be heading to Sundance Wyoming, Section A, From the UP of Michigan to hunt Mulies. It'll be my first time to Wyoming and was wondering where would be a good spot to get a good mule deer? Area 'A' ive herd has a lot of whitetail and few mule deer. Alot of private land. I have a winchester .243 and a remington 30-06? Should I got with the -06? should I go with a heavier grain? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks

I live in Montrose Colo and was raised in
Menominee County and left in 1961. Both
calibers are fine.

I disagree, a 243 is alittle small for a 250 to 300lb mule deer, whats the max grain 90..?.. can't go wrong with a 30-06 lot more knock down power...hate to hit a monster with a 243 and lose 'em...

Whatever gun your most comfortable with would be the best choice. I hunted around Sundance this year, most of the mulies we saw were just north of town, and down toward Gillette. Saw a real good mulie buck standing right off main street in Sundance, and a real good whitetail 5x5 right in the rest area parking lot at the east end of town.

I hunted section A in Hulett,WY two years ago. Seen alot of mules and some white tails. Iam thinking I might try it again this year.Send me an E-mail.

115gn is I believe the max weight for 243.

My wife shoots one and a 30-06. With her .243 usually they go only 1 direction when hit, down. This year she used a 30-06 and had a 4pt run a mile... its all where you hit them. She seems to shoot the 243 much better though.

Between the two, a 30-06 is more forgiving and will give you an extra 100 yards. I personally love 243's and find they are terrific guns when using quality bullets (I love 100grn Nosler Partitions in them).
