This Sucks Pic

I hate to see this kinda stuff. He's a nice buck with potential. Would've like to have seen him next year. fatrooster.

Like you said, to put it plainly. THIS SUCKS. If you had seen the deer alive, would you have saved him or let him die? You hear so muck that you shouldn't interfere, because it is upsetting the natural way that things happen. My philosophy is that the fence is not part of nature, so cut the fence and help the deer then fix the fence. Muledeernut

Yep, that sucks. Chitty way to go for that guy. Do you have his rack in your rafters now?

muledeernut.....well said. Locked horns are one thing, but a fence is another. I'm pretty sure Justin would have helped that buck off that fence had he seen him alive....right OT? Either way, that does Suck! Can't say I've ever seen one die like that before.

I found a doe in that predicament a couple of years back but didn't have pliers to cut the fence. She'd go nuts with her front hoofs everytime I'd get close. Then along came a rancher with a lasso and some smarts on how to use it and we got her out.

It's a shame that someone didn't find this buck.

That is a shame. I hate to see anything die a miserable death...but somehow those big antlers make it even worse. Here's a similar pic that I found on another BB a while back. No man made obstacles....just a freak thing. MD

That is definately not the way to go. Sucky is the right word. Just curious, did you take the rack or is that not allowed in Utah anymore, I cant keep up with all the new regulations but I seem to remember that you cant have skull attached horns without a tag. Is that true. Does anyone know?

I grew up working on a ranch in Western Mt. Each spring I would repair miles of fence, alot was bordering forest and game was wintered on the ranch. The worst year I found (6) calf and yearling elk dead just as this buck met his demise. I built low spots in popular crossings with smooth pole low tops so they would not get wrapped up like this guy did. This seemed to help and the game really used them. Elk arent very good fence jumpers. I have never found a mule deer or whitetail pinched like that. Thats very unfortunate.

When I was younger, I got drawn for a special doe hunt at Fort Hunter Ligget. We were driving next to a fence line, going to a place that we found the day earlier to sit, when a doe came barreling off of the hill from our left and went to jump the deer fence to our right, she made a pretty good jump, but was a little early on her jump and cought her front legs on the top wire and she went down hard. I was kind of shocked when she failed to get up, and started convulsing. I thought she had killed herself. It took her a minute or so to come to. She got to her feet, looked at us as to say, "What the hell was that for." The last I saw of her, she was staggering into the brush. What a weird deal. Muledeernut

That definately SUCKS for sure. I hate to see any deer or elk caught in a fence, but a nice buck like that, dang!!
