Here are a couple pics. of a doe I have seen for two years in a row. The pics are pulled off a camcorder. Didn't see her this year. But her tongue always just hung there. Perhaps she had no teeth to hold it in? I don't know, what do ya'll think?

"If you're a real doe, you'll stick your tongue out at that camera they think we don't see!"

I suppose it could be a doe just seeing what it's like to be dead. If you're gonna post a picture of a deer's tounge, you should at least give us a little warning. There could be women, children, and cry-babies looking!

You guys crack me up!!! Still wondering if anyone as seen this with any other animals?? What might cause this? I know for sure that there were no handsome bucks around to get here all hot and bothered.

Man your close enough. With your other hand reach down lift her lip and see if she has any teeth.Hopefully she dont have sharkteeth

Yep. I've seen it. Just curious, in what state did you take that pic? I used to see a doe just like that every year in a campground here in Ca. I heard she got hit by a car right out of camp last year. Not sure as to the cause of the tongue job.

I don't doubt that a good jolt to head might cause that type of condition! You ever been dropped right in the dirt on your head at birth? :)

LMAO! You guys are too much! I think my brother in law might have a photo of one of this does youngens. You still got that picture SneakAttack?

The doe lived in Utah, She very easily could have been hit by a car. She lived right bye a major hwy. I was suprised to see her for two years. I didn't think she would ever make it after the first year I saw her.

supprised she's still living, but just a couple months or so ago my dad went out to feed our horses and one of our horses looked just like that couldn't get him to put the tongue in it was pretty dry and looked bad we took to vet and he had cut or ripped about a 2 inch or so gash on the under side of his tounge thank goodness it was no worse and the vet got him fixed. doubt this happened to her but anyways

Most likely secondary to an injury to the cranial nerve that controls the tongue. We see it in horses as well on occasion, with blunt trauma to the side of the head. I think the tongue on the frozen metal pole is funnier, though.

We've seen this on deer who were unlucky enough to have seperated the check/lips from the lower jaw. How the injuries actually occured is unknown but the deer were monitored afterwards(in pens). Deer recovered from the ripped lips injury but on 3 seperate occasions the deer were unable to keep their tonques in their mouths. Not sure why they couldn't keep the tonque at bay, but they're healthy otherwise.
