Went out again this weekend and it's starting to slow down for me. Everyone is finding all the sheds. :( I went out twice and found 2 fresh and one old spike. It's time to look for a new area. Anyway here are some pics hope you enjoy.

Caught this guy taking a rest with another one. I had it all planned out to get the shot on camera. Propped the camera up and took one picture as he was sleeping. Then my gun falls over and he snaps up looking directly at me. |oo So I hurried and shot him and got one fleeting shot at the other.

Here he is after the .270 nosler partition went through his chest.

That first shed is really nice I need to hit a couple spots soon, by the looks of things. Thats a monster coyote also, I see why you used a 270.

Looks like a nice day out in the field. Better than my weekend was. Thanks for the pictures.

This may seem like a dumb question but why do you folks shoot coyotes? do you get money for them or do it for sh*ts and giggles?

B_F_E, the first pic of the dog is while it was taking a nap. Then the real dirt nap is in the second pic.

Hawkk33, are you trying to start an argument? Cause you can't be serious. It's called predation control. Coyotes are roaches with fur. If left un-checked, there would be no stopping their destruction. The two reasons you mentioned are also good ones.

BFE - SneakAttack is right, I caught him sleeping along with the other one. He was so out of it I crawled within 125 yards of them before my mishap. I wish I could of got the other one two but didn't. Before the shot he sat up but that's as far as he got.

Hawkk33 - You might get some money for them but I don't do it for the money. They are so dang flee infested I hate being around them dang things. I do know where one is laying if you want it.:) I also try and do my part to save as many fawns as I can. Especially now that spring is coming. I don't know how many deer I save with that one yote gone but any amount helps I always say.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

That's a big bugger.I've never caught one sleepin. That's a pretty good YOTE hunting accomplishment.

I have a photo of what a 300 UM does to a Fow in his bed at 225 yards if someone wants to post them for me.

Nice pics, that's one big yote!
I caught one sleeping once on the muzzleloader deer hunt at 50 yards, only problem was that I was on a stalk. Should've shot the bugger cause I spooked the deer anyway.

Hawk33, Are you serious?

IB,

Those are some good photo's. I like the first shed picture,it gets me excited about shed season. I also like coyote picture,it's not to often that a hunter is able to sneak on a sleeping yote'.

Hawk, Sometimes I get the impression from your comments that you may be an anti hunter. I'm just curious?

Antihunter moi'? surely you jest. I am not a follower of things I do not agree with or a good ole boy and that makes me an anti hunter... whatever man. Check out the posts of my kills and tell me what anti hunter would put that much effort into a sport they do not agree with.

I like hunting and do it with fervor and have sons and other relatives I take out and teach hunting.

I asked that question because to natives coyotes are a spiritual being. I just wanted to know why you all felt compelled to shoot them.

I must have touched a nerve and there is some profit to be made from their pelts.

Are you serious they eat our deer every yote should be shot . It helps the herd out . Come on now .

Cameron

Hawk33, you are right, it is highly profitable to shoot yotes. I myself am a millionare because of the black market coyote fur trade. We must be money-driven right? It couldn't just be that we care about dwindling deer herds and want to do anything to help. I hunt pheasants, so I kill every raccoon that I see, same kind of principle. If you kill deer, man up and shoot some predators, it kind of evens things out.

Oh, if there is money to be had, I have left alot of it rotting in the desert.

I respect your spirituality, but if somone out there worships cows, I'm still gonna eat me some steak.

Hawk thanks for the info, I like trying to stay informed on all cultural beliefs. When I first went to Mexico I wreaked havoc on the bobcats, only to find out later that it bothered many of the ranch hands from similar beliefs, I take it easy on them while I'm down there now.

Some news for you Andyman- I know of natives that are being paid for coyote pelts and cougar pelts in a rez in Idaho sad day in history when natives are killing for money.

B_F_E- thanks for understanding the real issue and not slamming me for asking that question. Things aren't clarified if questions aren't asked am I right ?

If you need to know anything else I would be glad to talk to you about it BFE

Hawk, thats good and well for them. I was speaking for myself. I'm sorry that you are upset for how they act.

I don't think anyone was "slamming" you. It was just strange to see a fellow hunter pose a question in the way that you did.

BFE- kudos for respecting the ranch hands in mexico, you were a guest and should respect the local culture. Heck, I pointed with my lips for 2 years in Honduras because using your finger was considered very rude. However, on the yote issue, I am also a native....of utah. I was born and raised here and will do all I can to help our declining deer herds. If that means killing yotes, than so be it. I will not consider myself "insensitive" for doing what I feel is right.

Andy

Hawk33,

This post had/has nothing to do with anybodys spiritual beliefs. I can respect peoples beliefs, but have no respect for people who but in on posts and try to start arguements.

IdBugler,

Congrats on a successful "hunt"

IB, nice sheds, pics & great shootin on the doggie! Plenty of reasons to shoot yotes & not the least is that its the best shootin practice to be had period. Its alot more realistic thinnin'yotes for practice than throwin lead at paper! Great job IB keep it up!

You don't get it and I don't have the time to explain it. BTW I was not under the impression that differing views weren't appreciated. In the future I will only post in that manner. Ok ? LOL
