Ca Bucks

Was thinking of making a trip to see some winter range deer. Are the Ca bucks still wearing there head gear in the Sierra foothills? I know are bucks in D4 on our ranch still have theirs? Also is there a good place on public land to see some nice bucks on the winter range? I know a lot is private and that is why I ask. Also anything else that could help me find some big ol' boy would be appreciated. If I find the bucks I will take plenty of quality photos and promise I'll post them. Thanks.

Ridn9high.. I know the eastern sierra herd to a beating this year with the storms and heavy snowfall.Lots of roadkill and starvation added to what they already have to put up with with the lion problem and winter grounds being swallowed up by development. A spokesman from DF&G stated in a news headline that he feels there is no hope for the herd and that he is afraid we have lost that herd. It will be interesting to see the outcome. There has been talk of maybe even closing the season in areas this coming season. If you do get up please do post your findings. Oops just re read your post and you are down on the west side. Would still be curious to hear about that side also. Where's your ranch at in D-4? We hunt up around Emigrant Gap.

Pretty much all the bucks in D7 have dropped. Dont know if that helps though.
Just a side note, hows the hunting in D4. And what kind of terrain.

The hunting in D4 is awesome. WE have 4000 acres in the Sac Valley(sorry not specific)and do quite well. Go to the blacktail page and look under "Here are some of this years photo's"(sorry for long title). We took a couple nice bucks and 1 old forky. He has 8 different 1" points coming out below the main forks.
I was using my bow all season(rifle and achery) and passed on a few smaller bucks, 30 yards or less. If I was carrying my rifle could have taken some awesome bucks from there. I really wanted a nice bow buck, oh well next season.

Nice blacktail pics, is this a family ranch. Also do blacktails from this area qualify for B&C.

It's my uncle's ranch. Actually they don't qualify for the BLACKTAIL record books. We are on only 2 miles on the wrong side of 99. We have 1 buck that is a 6x6 around 24-25 inches, awesome deer. I have seen him the last 3 season's and he keeps getting bigger. Will probably take him this next season. Wanted his Gene's to het passed around.

A friend of mine that lives in Biship said that him and his buddy have been seeing some monsters east of Bridgeport. That was a couple weeks ago, so I'm not sure if they still have their horns.
