Which one do you like? We are having a tuff time making up our minds on which one to choose.

Whats your $.02 on these units. How much will Private Land play into these units.

Thanks

Eddie

Good luck getting a response. Both units are excellent with some private land. Take the 4th season this year for it will definately be rut time!

Sign up for the CO hunting service on this site. It is $24. Click on the top ten hunts and it will answer your question for you as well as give you a write up of the area. I would also recommend you get in touch with Jeff C aka deerking and sign up for his antlerquest services.

Eddie, unless you are a regular (i.e. hundereds or thousands of posts) you won't get a whole lot of help here. While I'm a relative newbie here, I have rec'd some usefull advice [thx to the MM "regulars." Remember, everyone's not freely giving away their "secrets" unless there's something in it for them - i.e. cash, or other's "secrets."

Here's what I've been doing. I always split a subscription to the Huntin' Fool with a co-worker. The March edition will have top recommendations for Colorado. One thing you don't mention is if you have any bonus points you want to burn. Unit 44 was considered a top 10 Trophy Mule Deer unit last year and 61 did make the Huntin' Fools top 24 list. Both with take some bonus points - something like 3-5 bonus points. If you don't have the points, dream on or buy a landowner tag.

Right now I'm trying to decipher the 2004 draw/sucess data. I have downloaded 3 PDFs off the CDOW website:

drw_sum.pdf
hunt_recap.pdf
deer.pdf

Most of the good hunts, like are talking about are 100% 1st choice hunts - you have to use your bonus points to get. Right now I'm trying to build bonus points (only have a couple.) I'm looking for hunts in a fairly good area (close or adjacent to the primo units) that I have a reasonable chance of drawing as a 2nd or 3rd choice. Obvisously I'm not gonna tell which ones I'm looking at. Sorry about that.

I'd like to know how other's use this data in looking for a decent hunting opportunity. That is, if they'll share their general approach and not reveal "trade secrets" to the newbies.

Thanks for the replys!

I do get the Huntin' Fool and other magazines like Trophy Hunter, Muley Crazy, BC Fair Chase, and the Eastman Journals. I also use the state DOW sites.

I purchased the Colorado Hunt Report also.

I have or will call the Biologist for each area as well as other people within each area.

My main reason for this post was to get inormation on the amount of private land in each area. That answer is always poor. Exmaples: 33% private land, more private land in the southern region, etc.

Like I said thanks for the replys;

The closer you get to winter range the more private land you will encounter. 44 and 61 have their fare share of private but not nearly the amount as many units. If you purchased the CO hunt report than you have answered your own question. If your only hunting CO than the CO hunting report is a much better deal @ $24 IMO than the hunting fool report because it is more specific. Than again I'm not to fond of Garth Carter selling the hell out of 43 LO tags when they are underscribed. I feel bad for all the guys who trusted in his credibility and than he pulled this crap.
