I posted this in the shed section but thought I'd put it here as well.

I just got my mount back from the taxidermist and thought I'd share a few pics and the story. Last winter a friend and I spotted this buck in a WY valley. The first and second picture is from about 800 yards. He's about 2:00 in the circle. Second pic shows a zoomed in right antler and head.

The next two pictures are as they they.

Then me holding them on a shed buck skull.

Then my talented artist rendition of what I imagined he'd look like when mounted.

Followed by a few as it happens pictures. You can see this mount and many other great sheds and heads at this years AntlerFest in UT, June 11th, and 18th. Watch for our flyer in local sporting goods stores and at the ISE show in SLC at the Trophy Hunter booth. Hope you enjoy .

That thing is awesome. I can't get enough of the pedestal mounts. There is one thing I would change...Keeping the mount at my house instead!

June can't get here fast enough. Some of the deer that are going to be at the Fest are out of this world. Thanks for sharing the photo?s of your little Bambi buck. :D

?It's all about the gut pile

That's some of the coolest stuff I've seen on the forum for a while. Not too many people have the energy to document a project like that.

Larry
Great set of sheds and an even better job with the concept and getting it put together. Awesome looking mount!

Beautiful mount! Thanks for sharing the entire story, cool how you have before and after pics.

That mount looks great! It takes dedication to watch a buck, find the sheds and then have an awesome mount created. Good job.

Thanks for the kind words guys. The image is pretty much how I remembered him, laying out in the sage. At 38 inches wide, he is the widest buck I've ever watched. He is from an area that gets heavily hunted and had to be a smart ol guy to live that long. Never seen him this year. I wanted to do something special for him and because of that I probably can't afford to get anything mounted this year. :( The shed on the ground is his from 2001.

Great set of sheds awesome pics. However the mount is not up to standards. Should have let e pro do that big old rack.

Wow. Very nice Larry. I saw the buck at Dirk's when it was being done........ and it turned out even better with the habitat scene. Great job.

I know how hard you guys worked for this big ol' buck and what he means to you. I'm proud of ya.

Although it's hard to tell from a picture, the taxidermy work in person is second to none. One of the prettiest bucks I've seen. cb

Not sure where the critisism comes from. The taxidermy work is beautiful, and professional to say the least.

I'm with you NM!
I'm very critical of taxidermy.
That mount is just fine.
It looks great and you should be proud of it Yellum.

Thanks again guy. I guess with 5 post to his credit, he is starting his MM career off with a bang. I have had 5 guys do taxi work for me. But the last 3 have been done by one guy, and I see no reason to go any where else. Second place is a distance second at that. His high demand is a testiment to his work. Big rack or small, it doesn't matter to him. He mounts the animal, not the antlers, and they all loook good. I waited 14 months for this mount for one reason, it was worth it.

Larry,
Anyone not liking the mount should see it in person at the shed fest. I sometimes think photos dont do taxidermy work justice. Many friends and myself have been using this taxidermist for years and I think he does great work. I think the mount is great and the story that goes along with it.

YELUM,
What could I say that hasn't already!! That is a GREAT mount and story!! Thanks again for sharing it!

Great story! Awesome deer and impressive mount. When I saw the final picture I knew exactly who the taxidermist was. He as done 2 deer and 1 elk for myself and family members. His work is second to none. I notice I really critique mounts and compare them to the one on my wall. I have yet to find a better taxidermy job. I know he is not hurting for work. The only problem is I hope I can still afford him when I finally bag that elusive 30" buck.

MoffitJerk,

Your post has got to be one of the dumbest comments I have read. However, I must compliment you. With only 5 posts you have already managed to come up with one of the rudest and idiotic posts at MM.

The only bobcat wondering what MoffitJerks "STANDARDS" are!!!!!

I should keep my mouth shut but as usual I wont. I hope you didnt pay a lot for that taxidermy work yelum. Deer looks bad and the base work is terrible.

Great, caught some nice bass. Other than the dam bugs ate me alive. I knew I was sweet!! Really those bugs probably had to turn and lick thier a$$ to get rid of the bad taste in thier mouth!!

That's a good one Nunya! :)

Larry, I'm glad to see you finally have old MegaTine back in your living room where he belongs. The room didn't quite seem the same without that big european mount to fondle and drool over. Now he's actually going to be staring at you in all his glory. Man I can't wait to see it in person. Looks like Dirk did a great job to me!

Thanks for sharing the story and pictures here at MM land.

Yelum your deer looks good don't get me wrong a awesome buck. As long as your happy thats all that counts.

Bobcat sorry i don't have all day to sit here and post messages. Like always you seem to jump all over somebody that you know zero about.

Theres a 38 inch rack on a beautiful mount in my living room. Why wouldn't I be happy. I'm very happy with it. But if your mother's brother's kid's husband does a Pro job, by all means post a picture so we can see what a good taxi job looks like.

Yellum,

Nice mount, turned out really good. Gotta say that I am in the midst of painting my living room that exact color. LOL

Moffitmaster,

How do you expect folks to react to your statements, coming from a guy that has 6 posts. Would you mind providing proof to qualify your statements that the mount sux?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-21-05 AT 06:00AM (MST)[p]Thanks again guys for the nice words.

Dakota, As for the color, lets just say my mother-in-law was involved. :) Hey, if my wife is going to let me put my heads on the wall, she can have any color she wants.LOL

I don't make many compliments because I like stirring the pot, but I must say the taxidermy work looks great in my opinion. Nice detail and scenery.

I also think he did a great job putting the horns back on a skull without the skull. Very real.

I had my walls painted similiar to yours. Mine are kind of an army tent, sand texture, green. Kind of grows on ya. Beats the hell out of white.

Don't pay any attention to the jealous pinhead.

That mount looks great and I like the sage with it. I also like the spot in the room where you put it. I can imagine alot of enjoyment sitting in front of the fire looking at him.

What a great way to bring an awesome trophy into your home. Regardless of shooting it... I envy the beauty of this buck and would love to have him in my home office. Great job and thanks for sharing the sequence of photos.

Thanks for a teriffic post.Best part of story is that He probably made it through winter and will grow another great headdress this year.If mother nature worked correctly he should have passed on those genes to a few healthy does. Thanks again

Thanks again guys for the nice words. Last year the buck looked old and he didn't move around much so I doubted he would come back. We figured him to be around 8 years old. I never saw him this winter so I was kind of bummed out. However, a couple lucky shed hunters were able to turn up his right side this year so maybe when he gets matched up we'll get to see some pics.
