Here are two pictures that Louis ask me to post for him IF they were of good quality Buck to post here. You bet there are Louis.
Here is his story as he wrote me unquote:
I saw this buck on the third morning but after traveling 1,300 miles to hunt in a Limited draw area of Wyoming, I did not want my hunt to end so soon. I saw 4 more bucks of this quality before season was over and was very glad to see this Buck again the last hour and a half of the season after 10-1/2 of the best days of hunting in Wyoming since 1971. He thanks an un-named person for the pointers on how to hunt the sage plateau country out of Rawlins.

Louie,
I guess I will have to drive back up there again and take some pictures of "your other Bucks" and post them here for all to see.
Have you got that Buck from Unit 242 mounted?

Brian

HOLY SMALLNESS... Could you downsize your zoom button on your computer screen....That's one hell of a buck.

Great buck! Thanks for sharing, is he missing a chunk of main beam on the left side from lead poisoning?!Jeff

No Brian, Ive only had 2 of my Mulies mounted.I have inherited my Dads mounts and would rather show them off as a way to remember him.I have also inherited a family friends 251 non typ which I had scored and entered, think it would be a good post here. Thank you very much for posting my pics I think this is great. Louie

Good spot and youre right.First shot was to shoulder and I wanted to put him down but he was about 300yds and all i had was head and neck and he was moving, hence the main beam, next one high in neck put him out.I could have very well been looking for pieces. Louie

bigLouis,

If you don't mind me asking where in the world were you hunting to kill a toad like that around Rawlings, as I am from Rawlins and spent the better part of my life hunting around there. I am not asking for exact coordinates but were you north, south, east, or west of Rawlins. I can only imagine where you were because dang near in every direction from Rawlins is a limited quota area. You have 84 which is the "Rim" you have Ferris Mountain to the north, you have the Hanna mines to the east and finally the Red desert to the West. That is one heck of a good buck and congratulations. I had a buddy about four years ago take a buck out in the sage country by rawlins on a completely public general area. He scored right at 186 inches and was the most well earned buck I have ever had the privelage of being with the hunter as he took him. I had the buck picked out and took a buddy on the last day of the season only to have him tag the deer. which was fine by me, i was just as exciting being with him.

Sure, I can see why you passed him in the first place. Bucks like that are culls in Wyoming and no need for anyone else to even come here and look for them.

Seriously - that's a big-time stud. Gret deer and congrats to you on what sounds like a super hunt.

Hello bigmuley,I was in 84 alright and the continental divide is what drew me to this unit.I could see those towers from where I hunted everyday. I think getting there on the fourth day, everyone else probably filled out on the opening few days.I didnt see hardly any competition til opening of elk season on the 11th.Met some great people in Rawlins.Hope like heck to draw again soon. Louie

Louie,

Welcome to MM and congratulations on a super fine buck. That
one would be worth shooting in any unit, in any state!
Congrats again!

Had you paid Gene Carrico to hunt on his leased land or were you on the public ground. It is a funny story actually, my buddy drew that tag two years ago and my dad works with a guy out at Sinclair Refinery whose father guides in this area, anyways he told us the general location to find this one deer he had seen. Anyways my buddy had to work one day so me and another buddy went out in the morning to see if we could locate him and sit on him until my other buddy got off from work and could get out there. Needless to say we did find him and he looks just about like the deer you have there. Typical as could be 31-33 wide. And to top it off on public ground. Well we lost him and could never find him again. It is funny how well them deer can hide in this country, or any country for that matter.

bigLouis that is a great buck! congratulations. Sounds like you had the hunt of a lifetime.

You are right bigmuley.Gene did make a special arrangement and found me a trespass hunt.I did kill this buck on a lease, but I saw more deer on Espy and the best buck of all was on a public piece but unapproachable by one man.I hunted alone because my buddy had to have a major surgery and couldnt travel. After 5 years trying for this tag and then drawing it I had to go.Also being from California and applying for 11 different NR tags I was lucky to draw one.Only disappointment of the trip was that the guy who inspired this hunt,Ron Oman couldnt use his tag.He taught me the patience to glass and scope to find the tip of an antler and look virtually miles from one vantage point and something will eventually move.Ive been hunting out of state since 1971,usually I look for the tallest mountain and most rugged country.Ron and I have been looking for lower country that fits glassing more for the last few years and it is paying off.We can both see age sixty right around the corner and have found value in putting heads and eyes to work and giving legs a break. Louie,

Gene usually does pretty good by me. He has done some amazing things with the "Rim" I can honestly say that no other person in the state has done for hunting what Gene has, escpically considering that when I was not old enough to hunt about 11 years ago the rim was a waste land, not that a good buck or two didn't come off the rim a year but the deer were alot fewer and farther between. Not to mention the elk hunting out there, as I am sure you seen some amazing bulls on your muley quest. I know of at least four bucks that I have seen first handedly that run on public ground that would go B&C's min. for all-time. I hope that the trend continues out there! Last season after my own deer hunt my dad, me, and little sister were out playing on the rim searching for a cow elk for my little sis and we came across a deer that I guarntee would have come close to shattering the typical state record. This deer had it all 33-35 wide, tall, heavy, deep forks, just an AMAZING buck, i do have photos of him but unfortunately he was a ways out and i did not remember my good lens for my camera and so the deer is tough to see. But if you would like I would be glad to send you a photo if you would like to take a peak. Like I said though you have to look super close to see the rack, but it is visible if you know what you are looking at.

Just got back to comp.I would like to see any buck pic you have. One day out there in a very heavy in my face wind I spotted a rack in the sage at about 400 yd from truck at 2pm.Wasnt sure he was alone so decided to sneak up and jump up him and any unseen partners.I got to within 10 feet and eventhough he was looking at me he was asleep.I stood there in disbelief.Remembered I had my video cam in truck so went back for it.Returned to 10 feet and didnt want to spook him and any unseen partners with rifle on shoulder and while I was taking it off he caught my movement so I dont have him on film getting up but got camera on him before he came back down to earth! Such a cool thing to see.A computer savvy buddy who makes videos says that too bad it is not a digital video or he could make me some still shots of it.Im 57 and have been hunting since age of 7 with my Dad and this was one of the most exceptional experiences I have ever had on a hunt.Just realized as I write this that since that 1st Rabbit I killed through this season Ive just celebrated my 50th anniversary hunting.Do you know how we can communicate personally ?
