Just got online to verify a gunsmith's recommonmdations concerning a muzzle break for my new 300 REM Ultra Mag. Has anyone sent their gun off to Magnaport for a new break install? They are $195+S&H.... Also any performance feedback would be appreciated
Thanks
Chris
P.S. Thanks everyone for their opinions on the 7MM UM vs. the 300 UM

I had a Mag-NA port muzzle break put on my 300 ultra mag a couple of years ago. I think I paid the same price. I think the thing works real good. It is loud so wear some hearing protection. I have been using the 180 grain Swift Sorroccos (?) and have been real happy with how they shoot. Mine can come off and I could put a cap on if I don't want to use the Muzzle break. It took a while to get back from the gunsmith so ask how long it will take to get done. So you can get the gun ready for hunting season.

Craig-
Thanks for the info on magnaport. I'll call them monday to see about their turn-around.....you'd figure since it's pretty early in the spring, they'd have a pretty good turn-around....also, how's the recoil reduction?
Chris

Chris, I know they reduce recoil but they increase muzzle blast significantly many time to the point of flinching from the muzzle blast. If you have to wear hearing protection while hunting it wouldn't be worth it to me...Just my opinion..

My 300 ultra is set up with the magna brake just like Craig's.
I also shoot the 180 grain swifts and find them very accurate.
The brake is great at the range but I remove it when hunting as I don't notice the recoil in the field. It is very loud with the brake on. It HURTS the ears so I remove it while I hunt.
