I just got off the phone with the company that conducts our drawing in Fallon Nevada and they said the drawings are now complete and they are mailing out results today. The person I talked with was unsure if there will be e-mails sent out today as well to those that have requested e-mail notification. They also said the billing process has been completed and that if your credit card has no charges/pending charges by now you are most likely SOL. The only hope anyone might have at this point is if their credit card didn't go through for one reason or another. They said they do have a fairly long list of people with credit card problems. Just thought I'd let you all know.

Good luck to all those that drew tags,

Yep got my rejection email today . Hope others had better luck than me .

..can you imagine getting drawn and not having enough left on your card to cover and get dumped. What kind of story would the wife have to have to make that OK.

Brandon, I talked to a buddy of mine last night who's family put in for five Central Region tags, and only two out of the five drew! Something's seriously messed up! It's getting to the point where I think a non-resident has a better chance of drawing than a resident does.

I know a couple guys who didn't draw general tags last year and it P.O'd them enough that they pretty much said screw it and didn't bother to put in. While I understand the need to manage the herds, I think it's sad that the State is pushing people, especially families, out of the sport. My dad used to be an avid deer hunter, but the years of waiting in line all night for a permit was the end of it for him.

Take care.

The central unit deer was the only thing I drew. You'll just have to go with me since I get to hunt it early. :) I didn't get an email on my wife's so I'm hoping she was successful for something. Later

You may be right, I was a Utah resident for 30 years, but now as I live in Arizona and apply as a non-resident for a central tag, there is really no question as whether or not I will draw and once again I did draw, however I have to pay a hell of a lot of money for the tag in which state I still feel I've put a lot of years of solid taxes, time and money into. I think the resident vs. non-resident issue is terrible especially when we are all U.S. residents and in many situations we own family farms or property, pay major taxes to states, support the deer and the state monetarily and with our time much more than the average joe, yet due to business we happen to reside in another state and therefore we are considered aliens and in order to hunt with our family who all happens to live in the state we have to pay $300 bucks to hunt a skinny little deer on top of the money for plane tickets, car rentals etc. Oh sure you could argue then don't do it just stay home. Unfortunately that is the easy way out, and please people don't insult us non-residents with that answer. Sorry but you hit a real heated issue with me with the non-res comments

This is my sons 3rd year for putting in for a general deer tag. He did not draw his first year, second year he got a tag, this year he did not draw again the email we got yesterday UNSUCCESSFUL talk about a slap in the face for our young hunters. I thought as of last year that all of our young hunters that put in for the draw would be guaranteed a tag until the age of 18 is this true or not ? I was told this by the DWR personnel when we stoped at the checking station last season. Any one know what is going on now ?

Tooele, no flames intended, but you're pretty much preaching to the choir. I understand Utah is now allocating a certain number of permits specifically for non-residents in an attempt to drum up revenue, which I think is B.S. If you draw a permit at the same odds as a resident, fair enough. But when the scales are turned in your favor because of money and guys who actually live in the State loose opportunities, I think it's wrong.

As far as fees go, I wish non-resident fees were more reasonable because I'd love to hunt several States each fall, but it's simply not reality. This becomes more of a "rich mans" sport every year.

Holy cow Browtine! No central tag! Maybe you can spot me a nice one and tell me where he is. You can share my success.;-)

Anyone know the number of tags by unit for deer this year? I thought I read somewhere that Book Cliffs went down in total tags.

I just got off the phone with my Dad and he found out that neither himself nor his wife (who applied seperately) drew out for central Utah deer hunt (both are residents). What amazes me is that so many people want to hunt in Central Utah. Looking at the draw odds for the Vernon limited entry unit (central area) are nearly equal to the Pauns. What am I missing here? the Central unit is not famous for huge mule deer. The North and Northeast units have a better track record for big bucks why does everyone want to hunt in the land of sagebrush and the giant 2 pointer????????????????? It makes no sense that the central unit sales out second only to the southern region. Somethin isn't right. Someone clue me in.

Vernon is surviving off peoples memories. There's some good bucks out there, but nothing like there could've been had it been managed properly after being closed for years. Simply been over hunted.

I like the Central Region because it's close to home and I have access to some private ground. Granted the odds are remote of actually killing a monster buck, but it does happen occassionally. I think a lot of guys like because it's close to home and they can get in a hunt after work.

NOW WAIT A MINUTE tooele!!!

DON'T PAWN WHATS LEFT TO THE NE REGION!!!

THIS REGION SUCKS,UNDERSTAND IT???

THERE WERE QUITE A FEW MATURE BUCKS TAKEN LAST YEAR IN THE NORTHERN (WASATCH) REGION!!!

IF THE NE REGION IS KNOWN FOR BIG BUCKS I MUST BE MISSING SOMETHING HERE!!!

AFTER 2 OR 3 DRAWS AND THEN SELL WHATS LEFT OVER THE COUNTER THE UDWR FINALLY SALE THE TAGS!!!

1/2 THESE JOKERS DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO GET HERE AND THEN GET EVEN MADDER WHEN THEY FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF HUNTING IS LEFT!!!

WE GOT 1000 TAGS CUT,A PROPOSAL FOR 1000 MORE TO BE CUT,DOES THIS TELL YOU ANYTHING???

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING IF YOU HAVE ONLY ONE TROPHY BUCK IN THE CENTRAL UNIT ITS NO WONDER THERE IS NO TAGS LEFT!!!

No limited entry tag for me. It sounds like I should feel pretty lucky to even have a central tag this year really!

NvrEnuf

I agree that the central region is close to home for a lot of folks on the wasatch front, but so is the Northern region. The central region does have a few bucks, but for the number of people going for tags, it is definitely overrated. As far as the Northeast Bobcat, yeah generally the numbers are down, but there are still some good bucks up there. My uncle who works for the forest service runs across one every once in a while. With the high demand I'm pretty sure that I'll be switching to the Northern or Northeastern units next year.

ALLRIGHT tooele

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER A GOOD BUCK???

WHATS YOUR UNCLES NAME???

WITH SOME PROPPER MANAGEMENT SOME OF THE NE REGION COULD BE ALOT BETTER THAN WHAT IT IS TODAY!!!

THANKS TO OVER HUNTING & CONTINUOUS & OVERLAPPED HUNTS THIS REGION IS A REAL JOKE!!!

THIS REGION JUST MIGHT BE 'OPPORTUNISTS PARADISE' HELL,THERES ALWAYS A HUNT OR TWO GOING ON!!!

IF THERES EVEN A CHANCE IN HELL OF A 30"+ BUCK IN THE CENTRAL REGION I'D PLANT MY ARSE RIGHT THERE!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING ABOUT TRADING MY NE TAG FOR A CENTRAL TAG,SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS A CHANCE!!!

Larry, get your gun ready :), we got plans... KTC, you got my tag! However, I dont know very many people who are more deserving of a LE elk tag, so I guess I cant be to mad about the draw.

Bobcat,

It is hard to say what my uncle considers a good buck, I would say 25+, he's not really a big time hunter and he doesn't get into scoring trophies, however the fact that he has worked for 25 years with the forest service in Nevada, New Mexico, Idaho and Utah means that he has seen some pretty nice bucks. I would say that his judgement is qualitative and not quantitative per se. When he has shot 25 inch bucks (in the central region) he says that they are pretty nice bucks. Now you've also got to remember bobcat, that since I hunt the central region, obviously, I prefer to promote the Northern and Northeastern regions. So I'm pretty sure there are several 30 inchers in the Northern region worth commenting on. Now my idea of a good buck is 25 inch wide or better range. Unfortunately, I don't shoot one every year, however for the past 10 years I have had shooting opportunities on this caliber of buck. The last two years I have decided only to shoot if it is around 28 inch or better. I have not tagged out. I usually hunt the central region of Utah (private property and public land), Wyoming, Arizona, Iowa and Texas for Whitetail and turkey.

Hopefully that helps you size me up. I'm still considering switching to the northern region as a friend has been sending me photographs of some damned good bucks they've killed over the last 4 years.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-26-05 AT 07:16PM (MST)[p]Browtine,

Figure out how YOU can get a returned tag. I know someone who is turning one in and you should get it! If you know how, you know where I live, and we can make arrangements. Leave the cuffs and uni home though.

Finally drew a southern muzzy tag again. I've been putting in for it the last four years. Kind of frustrating for a res. Oh well, had a good hunt down there last time and the water has me pretty pumped about antler potential this year.

Good scouting,
Andy

I also drew a southern muzzy tag and am stoked about it. But I also got a big UNSUCCESSFUL on LE elk. I guess 10 points wasn't enough and from what it sounds like in a few more years when I do have enough points to draw all the big bulls will pretty much be gone. You just cant win.

straightshooter

DO YOU EVER LISTEN TO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING???

OR!!!

DO YOU APPLY FOR ALL LE SPECIES EVEN THOUGH THE PROC SAYS YOU CAN ONLY DRAW FOR ONE???

HELL ktc,IT AIN'T NO WONDER WE CAN'T DRAW!!!

NEXT YEAR I'M APPLYING FOR ALL SPECIES,IF THEY TELL ME I CAN'T I'M GONNA SAY WELL IT LOOKS LIKE SOME PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH IT!!!

THE ONLY bobcat APPLYING FOR WAY MORE SPECIES WITH ALOT LESS TIPPAGE NEXT YEAR!!!

KTC, your still lucky you were not home that night..I still have a good laugh wishing u had been there. We need to hook up for dinner or somthing..
Later, Brandon

Browtine,

You are wishing I was home and I am still damn glad I wasn't!

I still to this day wonder what I done wrong...or what it was I was about to get caught for....

There is a good chance you may have caused a medical emergency.

bess,

Repeat after me..No tippage, no tippage, no tippage. Keep saying it. I still chuckle about your tipping plans.;-)

tooele

IF YOU WANT A GOOD CHALENGE TRY THIS NE REGION!!!

IF ALL YOU WANT IS A 28"ER OR BETTER YOU WON'T NEED A BULLET BELT,YOUR GUN WILL HOLD MORE THAN ENOUGH!!!

REMEMBER,HUNTING STARTS AUGUST 15 & IS CONTINUOUS & OVERLAPPED THROUGH JANUARY!!!

THERES AN LE UNIT ON THE SOUTH SLOPE (DIAMOND)KINDA SAD TO SEE WHAT KIND OF BUCKS ARE LEFT IN THE UNIT!!!

DIAMOND WAS KNOWN FOR MONSTER MULEYS IN THE GOOD DAYS,TO BAD THE GENETICS WERE SHOT CLEAR OUT!!!

WHEN UNITS ARE SHOT OUT & START OUT FROM NOTHING AN THE AGE CLASS NEVER EXCEEDS 3-4 YEARS OLD WELL YOU SHOULD KNOW THE REST OF THAT STORY!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING A CENTRAL TAG JUST MIGHT BE PARADISE!!!

ktc

I TRIED EVERYTHING I COULD THINK OF TO ENHANCE MY ODDS!!!

THE MORE I THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO TO THE LE UNITS THE SICKER & MADDER I GOT!!!

I FILLED THE APPLICATION OUT WITH PINK INK!!!

I ADDED THE TIPPAGE!!!

I EVEN STAMPED THE ENVELOPE "$$$ INSIDE"!!!

I WROTE THE SECRETARY A NICE LITTLE NOTE!!!

I EVEN SIGNED IT WITH X'S & O'S!!!

BUT TO NO AVAIL!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING THEM NEVADA SECRETARIES AIN'T VERY NICE!!!

Hey fellas the left over tags from Central Utah that were alotted to non residents used to be available to the residents in the second drawing. I think they still are. I am a non res and have seen some pigs taken in Central. I am heading back there this year as I did not draw for Southern. I think if you check it out the results will show left over tags for Central because there are never enough non residents that apply. Anyways I hope this helps some of you.

??????
General muzzleloader deer is not considered a LE hunt even though it is a draw smarta$$. You can draw a southern muzzy deer tag and a LE elk tag(in theory, hasn't worked for me).

HEY Andyman

HERE I AM TRYING TO GIVE straightshooter SOME CRAP FOR DRAWING THAT COVETED SOUTHERN MUZZY TAG AND ALL I STIR IS YOU!!!

smartass HUH???

LOL!!!

I THOUGHT I COULD AT LEAST STIR SOMEBODY BESIDES YOU!!!

YES I KNOW YOU CAN DO THAT,THE SOUTHERN TAGS MIGHT AS WELL BE LE TAGS,HELL THERE WERE EVEN PEOPLE THAT DIDN'T DRAW THE COVETED CENTRAL TAGS THIS YEAR!!!

IF YOU GET REAL DESPERATE & WANT TO HUNT A 2 POINT NEAR ALTAMONT THE GOOD OLE NE REGION STILL HAS TAGS OF COURSE!!!

IN THEORY FOR YOU IS REALITY FOR ME,IT HASN'T WORKED FOR ME EITHER!!!

YA SEE THERE IS ALWAYS OPPORTUNITY IN THIS REGION,I CAN WAIT UNTIL THE NIGHT BEFORE SEASON & STILL BUY A PERMIT OVER THE COUNTER,DOES THAT TELL YOU ANYTHING???

I KNOW ktc WILL DRAW A FEW YEARS BEFORE I DO,THAT PUTS ME INTO A MISMANAGED,OVERHUNTED,OPPORTUNITY FOR THE OPPORTUNIST,SHOT OUT HERD,MY POINTS WON'T BE WORTH THE PAPER THEY'RE WROTE ON LET ALONE THE TIPPAGE THATS BEEN SENT!!!

CAN YOU IMAGINE THE ONLY bobcat WITH 17 POINTS IN THE FUTURE WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A 3-4 YEAR OLD BULL IN A PREMIUM LE UNIT??? I HOPE I START GETTING EXCITED AS I GET OLDER CUZZ I CAN PLAINLY SEE CHANGES THAT ARE NOT EXCITING ME AT ALL!!!

THE ONLY bobcat TELLING ALL YOU LUCKY FOOLS THAT DRAWED LE TAGS GOOD LUCK & WE DO EXPECT SOME PICTURES OF THEM STINKY FULL RUT BULLS!!!

Come on bess, do you really belive I will draw before you? My track record isn't very good you know.

Now how did you get my smartass title away from me? I thought I was king smartass. I guess you can be smartassjr. :)
