Montana Alternate List Bullsh*t

Anyone try to log onto the Montana license site to try and I do mean try to get onto the alternate lists? Evidently since the drawing last week I've adopted a new identity. My ALS number that funny, still seems to show I didn't draw a license, has been assigned to someone else. This has or did happen to 3 of us. Well, after watching hunter after hunter join the list, a buddy finally figures out our birthdates have been screwed with in the last week. I'm now 1 day younger, and about 30 persons farther down the list. Never shoud have gotten on the list now that the b-dates are changed as I'm sure that my bonus points will have been wiped out too.

What do you expect the MTFW&P website is run using two old IBM TRS 80's as servers.

They are experiencing extremely heavy usage and the ALS system is completely a mess. I called today and was told it may be fixed by Friday. Hope that helps.

BTW you are not the only one

What do my out-state hunting license fees go for? Maybe a new computer system should be suggested. Goof ups or not, I could not and would not miss the seasons out there. If I could ever convince my wife, I could just move on out and eliminate the out-state draw completely!

By the way, what part of NE Montana you hanging around?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-25-05 AT 04:56PM (MST)[p]I live in Glasgow and "hang around" just about everywhere. I travel weekly to Plentywood, Scobey, Wolf Point, Poplar, Malta and all points in between.

Hunted a few years out of Glasgow, then moved west to the sprawling metroplis of Saco and suburban Hinsdale. Had a blast hunting that area but a buddy realized his wife had relatives nearer to Wibaux/Glendive. We've hunted the Circle area from about '94 - '99, hanging out in I believe the Rainbow Bar and bowling alley. Most meals were at Kay's Tastee Freeze.

Ah the memories, might have to head a little farther north for a few days this year.

By the way, how's the antelope up your way? We've never drawn but I'd love to give it a try.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-26-05 AT 08:42AM (MST)[p]Speed Goats have really recovered from the bad winter two years ago. If you are looking in the Saco area PM as my mother in law owns a large ranch north of there, in prime speed goat country. It is in antelope Hunting district 600.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-26-05 AT 12:30PM (MST)[p]Hey guys, I have a bunch of relatives in the Circle, Vida area. My dads family is from there and a bunch still live there. Thats where I go to hunt when I draw.
Have a cousin in Glendive and another cousin is the girls basketball coach at the college in Havre-MSU northern.

Kirkl,
Mike Erickson is a cousin of yours? Small world. He has been to my house a couple of times.
I watched him coach the Wolf Point boys b-ball team in one of the all time greatest high school ball games I have ever watched.

Nemont, yep hes my cousin, yes it is a small world when two people know people from small towns like circle, vida and wolfpoint.

Hey NEMont,

how tough is it to draw a tag for speed goats in the area south of Malta, I have a buddy that's never hunted them before and we'd like to try for 'em in that area. Does it take a couple of years or so, more or less? Just wondering, so that we can start planning. I appreciate any info. Thanks

Usually a couple of years but you can luck out and draw on your first try. If you want a nearly guaranteed tag apply for the 700 tag for region 7 I think then give out 13,000 and there are usually like 14,000 applicants.

I wouldn't look for many trophy buck south of Malta as that area has been bone dry for the past 5 years. I would consider a tag in 670.
