anyone have any info on m-3 muzz. hunt. this is a x6b nov 19-27 muzzleload hunt. is this mostly private land or is there plenty of public areas to hunt. thank you in advance. B.A.C. oh by the way this is a Ca. hunt. thanks again.

I live here, mostly private where all the flatheads chase the cookie deer. Could be good, but most just drive around and chase each other. The game wardens have a good time giving tickets to all the southern california flatheads that come up and patrol the main roads and shoot at the little spikes and forkys.

I guess from your post no-one(Flatheads) from Northern California drive those same roads. Let me guess you walk from your house to where you hunt, That's great for you But the rest of us have to drive to get where we are going.

I hope you get treated the same as you treat others.

No, I don't walk from my house, I walk from my vehicle to the mountains, where the deer live. I don't have a problem with anybody else hunting, but do you really expect someone to give up game to you, so you can put it all over the internet, that is why your mad because that is how so/cal people think. I am sure your a nice guy, but to be honest, the road hunting trafic jams usually consist of so/cal hunters following each other around.
As for your question, yeah, there is private and public land, but the mountain lions are killing most of the good bucks because they are the solitary animals, so they are the ones that get killed first. Please let your people in so/cal know that for the critters to live, we must give nature a hand controlling the predators. Sorry if I upset you, but I think you can see what I mean.

Gary did you see in the regs they are increasing the tags on the muzz. hunt from 20 last year to a proposed 40 for 05.was just trying to get some general info for a friend. Iam the one in my circle of buddies that is the research nut.

Yes I did see that, don't understand it though, we had a deep freeze up here this year for a good month, lots of snow, frozen gound, which means dead deer. I don't understand their reasoning for the increase, I watched the helocopter flying around doing the deer count, the only reason they counted alot of deer during the count was because they were all stuck together because of the weather. They average in what they don't see with what they do, however, their average is wrong because they actually saw everything because they were all out in the open and not in the trees and brush because of the bad weather. Hope that helps

Gary: Where I hunt in M-5 (X5B)I don't see a lot of trucks I guess the road is to rough for them to make all the way back in. But I love road hunters because they push all the game with in a mile of any road back to where we hunt, so the only reason a bunch of road hunters can bother you is, if you on the same road as them.I don't see that many hunters in the morning (dark) as I'm walkin and I don't see that many walkin out(dark). I'm sure up close to the hiway and such they do raise up a dust storm, But guess what it the same in any State you go hunting in. Get away from the roads and it NO LONGER a problem.
I "know" that SO-CAL hunters out draw NO-CAL hunters for all the trophy areas, I guess you need to have more friends that hunt.

Hey, Gator, I can,t draw x-5B, but I did kill 82 chuckers in x-5B last year, and took some good pictures of some good ones. You wrote like you draw that every year, you must be pretty lucky. Was that you I went out and saved during the search rescue mission last year, you should thank me for carrying you out after getting lost a mile and a half from your truck, tell me the truth, that was you, right!

If you can draw X5B more than twice in a ten year period you are damn LUCKY . Good luck in the draws this year , I just got my booklet today .

Gary you can allways e-mail someone to keep info private.I commend you for helping rescue another hunter but you need to lighten up a little especially with the name calling of the southern hunters....Devlin

Gary
Post some of the great pictures.
Last year I got to hunt X-9B
2003 I got to hunt M-5
This year I'm hoping for X-5B or X3B Haven't decide where to put in yet.
Did you hunted Chuckars in M-5 in 2003.
I had a couple of really nice bucks back in a huge sagbrush Basin( scentdripper on timers out) close to the border and a Couple of Cuckar hunters bumped them out the day before the opener,I hunted there for a few days and Didn't see them again so I pulled out of the area, I head back in that area the last few days of the season, as I was setting up my tent those same two guys came along and told we that they had just jumped those same 2 buck again in that same basin, hunted it those last few days and never saw them 2 bucks again.Had some small 3x3 under a 100 yds and didn't pull the trigger came home with tag soup. Wish Chuckar season and ML season wasn't the same time.
Gary I'm glad you got to feel good about yourself in helping out another hunter, Maybe the favor will get returned some day.
Just because I live here don't mean I was raised here.
Now I would rather hunt pheasants then chuckars, BUT hey to each own.

Gator, you should have used the chucker hunters to your success. I use them every year and kill my bucks. I watch them from about a mile a way, on top of a ridge and follow them around. It always works. Your M5 tag started as soon as the general rifle season closed, the good bucks were already educated to hunters and were holding tighter then a tick. The chucker hunters with the dogs running around were moving the deer you would never see or move yourself, you should have used them. Those bucks will see the dogs and hunters a 1000 yards off, jump up and move over a ridge and lay back down, they have done this year after year, and that is how I have seen things work, but what do I know.
Pheasants are fun too.

Bur, there's a ton of public land in that zone, don't let 'em fool yah, its all about luck when it comes to drawing a tag, I never draw but always scout so I'll say what I want on this site....

LAST EDITED ON Apr-28-05 AT 07:03PM (MST)[p]The problem was over the hill was Nevada. Walkin with all those small rocks is a killer on the feet, But that is why that spot don't get hunted that often.
Next time I draw it all about trying to get east of the chukar hunters and let those guys and their dogs move the deer to us. We did find some great sheds in that basin. I was told by some rifle hunters from Napa(I was up there 3 days scouting) where to go, they had killed 2 nice 27" and 28" 4x4 out it aready, and they was pulling out because know-one want to bring another one out from in there. 1st day in a saw 3 bucks all small, the next day saw those 2 bigum I put out those scent dispenser and by the time the hunt (10 days)started they had tore up those 2 trees. Last day I hunted that basin I had a 3x3(21") under a 100yds but passed to let him grow some. I do know that basin holds deer in both rifle and ML seasons it has some good shed in it too. May the draws be good to ya.
