World Record Archery bucks

Does anyone have info or knowledge about which of the two big velvet bucks taken last year in NV and CO was the new world record. Just curious if they had been scored or entered and what the final scores were. Thanks

Yelum

If you're referring to the monster typical that Greg Krogh arrowed in NV it was officially measured "in velvet" at 202 2/8" P&Y. It's a few inches shy of the World Record. Furthermore, since it was measured in velvet, it would not be eiligible for world record status. An Awesome Muley though!

For Colorado, if you're referring to the Cox buck arrowed in CO (Montrose County), it officially measured 202 0/8" (NOT in velvet). Also a few inches shy of the world record. Tremendous mule deer as well. Hope it helps.

Yes, we're talking Pope & Young. However, the CO buck also qualified for Boone & Crockett also. The Nevada buck would also qualify if the velvet was stripped.

I know of a mule deer with velvet with a bow that has taken the number one spot in colorado and number 4 in the world

Roy-I believe the two bucks that are being refered to are the Krogh buck and the other velvet buck killed by Jeff Draper last archery season in Colorado on the Uncompahgre. The Draper buck netted 200 5/8 net velvet category per the artical in Eastman's Bowhunting Journal March/April 2005 issue.

There was quite a bit of speculation revolving around both these bucks until the final scores were tallied.

The world record archery still stands unbroken by either bucks and was taken back in the late 70's or early 80's and his name escapes me at this time.

The Cox buck has some controversy surrounding it as Lee Cox got himself in quite a pickle with some Red Deer antlers. I don't know if he was convicted yet or not but it aint a misdemeanor. Something to do with the "F" word and time in the big house.

Mike:

Thanks for the updated info.....VERY interesting.

I believe you're referring to the gross score???? If so, for record book purposes, it really doesn't mean much. I believe Mike is accurate with his final NET score. Awesome bucks for sure, no matter the score.

As far as I know, the world record archery buck has yet to be surpassed.

Number one in the velvet category? I believe the archery world record is still from Colorado, its hard-horned, killed years ago, and it came to me in the last few minutes, I think the hunter's name is Bill Barcus and it came from the White River National Forest. Anybody have a P&Y book to confirm it?

Sniper101-According to your profile, you have the same last name as Jeff Draper. Is this your dad, brother, relative?

No one is disparaging that buck as it is tremendous and I personnally know because I held it in my hands once. I'd give my left nut to take one just like him. We are just talking "net" scores for official comparison purposes only and the "net" score is no where near 210. When it was in Matt's shop, my buddy Barrett measured it gross, green at 209 and change. Like I said. Its a stud!

Awesome buck! Before symmetry and extra point deduct, it looks like it had a main frame that grosses in the high 2-teens.

Yeah definately a toad. Every picture I see of this rack it is by itself on a plack. I wonder why nobody ever got a cape for it and got it mounted?

Its mounted lifesize for all to see at the Mule Deer Museum in Cabelas Kansas City store. Looks pretty big but its in there with a bunch of 300 inch non typs also.

Maybe the out of touch Dinosaurs at P&Y can get Cabelas to get them a photo of it for their website.

BS, After I convince Cabelas to move the Mule Deer museum to their new store here in Utardia where it belongs, I'll send you a picture.

Shotgunjim, Nonsense, why would he want to go up there in the cold. Every buck looks for a warmer climate upon retirement and Glendale, AZ will be his new home! But he could stop by for a visit before spending his golden years with us!
