So how many of us bowhunters are counting the days till the opener (Res or Non-res). I would like some feed back if you are willing to share about the experiences on last years hunt (2004)and where you have seen some decent size deer. I can start off by saying I really didnt see any good size till the second day around 900am when I had two nice 195 class bucks come within 11 yards from my ground blind. I didnt even know they were coming till it was too late to draw. I should have brought and or bought a new tree stand for this hunt. As always should have could have....but didnt.

I didn't make it up last year because I had an archery cow elk tag and couldn't spread my hunting days that thin.... That was the first year in 5 that I hadn't been up there for the archery hunt though, and I miss it. I'll likely try to be there on September 5th!

I haven't ever bow hunted the Kaibab, but plan on it this year as I am a new Arizona resident. If anyone is interested in letting me tag along, I've got some pretty good hunting areas in Utah and we could potentially work something out.

If you had two bucks in the 195 class within 11 yds., you must be doing something right and in a pretty good area. Doesn't sound like you need much help, good luck.

Well, a friend of mine told me a general vacinity of where to hunt which was just south of the lodge. I arrived there on thursday morning around 230a and I headed south just passed the lodge and to my left I spot 4 good sized muleys so I made a left on one of the 200 roads to find a camping spot and to my demise it was all taken. So I camped on the west side of the road. The first day I saw some good deer but really no shooters. My brother-in-law spotted two good bucks to his right. Later that day I set up a ground blind roughly where he had spotted those deer and they showed up with total surprise on saturday morning. That was by luck because this was only the second time I actually hunted the Kaibab for Archery. I really dont know the area that well but a lot of people say the bucks are to be found more so on the east side or 12ae.

Where abouts do you live tooele? All I care about is having a good hunting memory/experience with friends and with new people. I'm actually trying to round up some bowhunters at my current job so that we can have a good outing this sept. Some of these guys have lost there old hunting partners due to religion differences or personal loss etc.. The thing is that there bows haven't done much use in the closet and there hunting spirit needs to be rejuvenated. We need to stick together and continue this great pastime.

I haven't made it up there the last 2 years. Have gone to Idaho and NM. I have already made plans to head up if I and when I don't draw any tags this year. I guess all the deer are south and west of the lodge since that is where all the people are. But I haven't hunted over there yet.

As far as tagging along. The way I see it is there is always room for one more person to come along. As long as they pull their weight. It is always exciting going up there just because of the potential.

I live in Gilbert, AZ at the present. I'm in my mid 30's right now, been bowhunting since I was 16 yrs old. Bowhunting has been limited to Turkey, mule deer, elk, and Whitetail hunting. I definitely can pull my own weight and I'm all about good memories, but I'm also pretty die hard as far as not having a problem putting miles on the boots, and I really don't shoot unless it's a pretty sizeable deer, I'd rather let em keep growing. And if anyone ever needs a root canal I come in handy as that is all that I do all day, when I'm not hunting.
