This may have already been addressed on here, but I haven't been surfin' much. I see Washington in all of its wisdom, left the season open again until the end of OCtober. So much for the big ones. I was hoping they may have learned from last years blunder. I'll enjoy hunting all month don't get me wrong. I just think its a bad idea.

This is the 3rd year of the 3 year package, I would put $ down that it will be changing next year. Hopefully it won't be too late.

I dont think they care about the 3 yr package thing cause they added that 2nd week last year which would of been yr 2 so they basically just through it in package or no package.

Just bought my license online

Special permit app:

Actually in 03 the season went an extra five days it just started earlier so it was over by the 24th. Enjoy it this year boys, I highly doubt it will be around for the next three years.

hunting & fishing license, big & small game, birds, permits, & 1 raffle/species=$236.83 Ability to hunt & fish 12 months of the year= priceless!

I am sorry for being thick here. I don't see where the state has the deer season opened for a particularly long time. Mind you, I am speaking of general deer on the east side. Most places it is only a week long (2 weekends), the only longer areas are where they are trying to reduce the number of whitetails. Or you may be speaking of archery or muzzleloader which are definitely longer hunting times. Or you may be speaking of the west side which is a two week season which I don't think is unreasonably long??? I am happy for a 2 week (3 weekend) on the west side and wish they had it on the east side. Just curious what boat I'm missing here. I have seen way more "big" deer the last few years with the 3 pt minimum in effect, not knowing how long it has been in effect, and would think that would help age the deer more than a shorter season. Most of the "big" deer I've seen are during elk season of course so they are still growing for all I know.

thanks,
mike

Mike, 5 extra weekdays for eastside mule deer in the north-central units can make a big difference.

IMO: The only part that bothers me is that the deer only get a couple days rest between the general and the permit hunts. In other words (unless there's a big storm or something), you possibly wait a decade to get drawn for a special permit to hunt deer that were (potentially)shot at two days before! Not exactly a chance of a lifetime.

Those 5 days make a huge difference. Trust me, I lived up there for 20+ years. There is almost always a big snow by then, then all of the boys are out with that last week to hunt. If you haven't filled your tag yet, and you aren't out there that last week, you're nuts. Just ask the guys who hunted it last year. They were rutting big time that last week. Then as posted above. If you get drawn for that permit, they have the potential of all being hammered the week before. Again, ask the last years bunch.
