With any luck, we will be hunting unit 102 in Wyoming this fall. Any idea of what the unit is like. What kind of quality is there in that unit? We are not afraid to get out and do our share of hiking if we know that there are some good bucks in the unit. I might have to carry my partner up the mountain, but that's another story. Thanks in advance for any information. Ress

LAST EDITED ON May-30-05 AT 10:54AM (MST)[p]I hunted it 4 times. Get off the roads!
Lots of bucks mostly smaller size! Does have nice some 190 class bucks, however they'er smart and move at night!
Find the steepest noorth facing slope and glass hard and send you're buddy up there to stir it up!
Warden is a nice guy but he will say hunt alpine mt,or pine mt!
Hard draw area very tough to get lucky I say if you see an 27"-30" 3x3 take it but do not expect to see better unless you "stay
verical" and work very hard glassing and doing a drive on the sides of the mountian by foot! Elk season is open to take with those guys and gals they want info on Bulls(the hardest unit to draw on Bulls period!) and you want info on Bucks.
There is no migration! They'er only movment is into Colorado,Utah and back just because of the shooting! Watch out for priviet land! Water is not an problem! Snow is not much help
One year(3 ago) I got an a nice 187" buck(4x4 with cheaters) who was full rut and with does so I know it can happen.
I put in every year their for elk, bucks, lopes last eight years and run about 50% on drawing deer, antelope!(always apply in special).
Next year will be tougher to draw as an nonresident because on the new preferance or bonus point system unless it costly!
Who knows? Where are you from? I hope I draw also I've been on a Wy dri spell last two years!(gas will still hurt)I drive out from CA.

was out in that area on sunday, saw some bucks putting on some good growth,I've never put in for deer there, but I've seen some nice one's come out of there.

Ress,

We drew 102 a couple years ago. Scouted the area in September and saw some dandy bucks (170-190 class). When the hunt started they had seemed to of moved off of the buttes and down into the lower country. I would spend some time down low in the cedars. That's where we found the bigger bucks once the hunt started. Defintely spend some time glassing with some good optics, I would pack the spotting scope too. You can glass for a long ways in that country.

I can give ya some names of some areas to check out. Just let me know.

This is a sleeper of a unit. Hunt hard and pack your buddy out if he needs it.
