It sounds like a tragic "accident" but someone made some wrong decisions.... maybe both parties?

It said his vehicle was also hit. Was the vehicle in the normal parking area when hit, or was the vehicle driven down range to put up a distance long range target and get hit there.
I used to use a range near my home for long distance rifle shooting and will not use it any more due to the idiots that come there too often.

I had called for a firing stop and walked down range to put up a 100 yard target for sighing in. the Mong idiots next to my shooting lane started shooting at the 25 yard target berm while I was down range in plain sight.
Another range user yelled at them and they finally stopped after about 4-5 rounds.
The other range I use is a few miles further, but a older crowd mainly uses it and practice good range safety rules. It is also patrolled by BLM rangers that have a office nearby.
