I thought everyone grew seedless watermelons now as I haven't seen one with seeds in many years. I thought they were like the Passenger Pigeon.

I bought a watermelon this weekend, and when I cut it open it was loaded with black seeds just like the old days. I was shocked.

I had forgotten how good a real watermelon tastes. There is no comparison to a seedless watermelon. It brought back memories of my youth.

Of course it might just be here in far northern Kali. where we have to order avocados from Amazon.

watermelon season is over......scrappers are in the fields now selling all good melons.....Every seedless field has about every 6th-10th row is seed melons to polinate the seedless....

They are sweeter melons but you can't give them away....

If they are long....they have seeds

funny....I was in walmart today and saw all the bins of LONG melons and laughed to myself that they would startle lots of buyers.....

The melon market sucked this years so this is a last gasp....on a good price year they never touch the seeded melons...they are better though

Hey Eel?

I'm starting to wonder about you & That Seeded Melon!

Seen on The News the Other Day where some Melons Were Confiscated Headed North out of Mexico!

Guess they'd been Cored!

And the Seeds Were Valuable!

You Sure You didn't get one of these?:D

It's funny that watermelon season is over down there. I hate watermelon but my daughter loves it, so I have a garden full of the crap. She talked me into picking one last week just to check.... She was very disappointed when we cut open an all white melon. But it was chock full of seeds...

Try it with some fried chicken, that should bring back the memories.

Dang, now I'm hungry.

I grow watermelons every year. If you get a chance to try a rattlesnake or Bradford watermelon you'll be love it. The Crimson sweet are great watermelons too.

It takes lots of labor to produce seed for those melons , like up to 80 people for 7-10 days for Pollination

LAST EDITED ON Aug-27-19 AT 07:04AM (MST)[p]Thanks for the watermelon lesson. I had no idea how they grow. I know about marijuana and seeds but not melons.

When I was a kid I spent one summer on my uncles farm in the San Joaquin Valley. My uncle had planted a few long rows of watermelons so us kids could earn some money. I remember watering them and hoeing weeds for days on end. It was hot and we always jumped in the canal to cool off.

They got ripe and we set up a stand out on the road. They weren't selling very well so we dropped the price to 10/$1....10 cents apiece. They still didn't sell. Finally my uncle called in a big truck and a crew Mexicans who came and harvested them, but I never saw any money?..lol. It all went to room and board, I guess. Every night at dinner my uncle would remind us,..."I'm just trying to keep you alive, not fatten you up."

I never really liked Watermelon. I worked in Blythe, CA for a few months and one of the coworkers took me to a farm that grew a type of Honeydew I've never heard of and it was the best tasting melon I've ever had. I was so focused on getting out of that town that I forgot the name of it.

I have to say Green River Watermelons are the best bar none. I don't know what is different about them but they are just plain good.

We used to stop every time we went to see my Grandfolks in Grand Junction Colo. My family owns the land on the West side of the Green River behind the museum.

Stop next time you are there and now is the best time. When we hunted down south we always stopped for a Green River Watermelon.

try one you will be hooked

Green River watermelon can't wait. Working south of Green River about 20 years ago. Old boy had about an acre of watermelons he stop by one day. Said he'd bring us a couple melons in a couple days . Few days later he stopped by said he was sorry he didn't have a melon but over the last 3 night the coyotes had come in and ate all the watermelon. Rutnbuck
