Zeke & BIGJOHNT I agree with both of you. I have been known to pack in so called "gun safe" places. If caught, at most you are asked to leave and if you do, no crime done. But, then again, I was and still am a strong believer in that it is best to be judged by 12 then to be carried by 6.

I agree with BIGJOHNT. Just ponder the thought Elk, if you were in Church and a Mental Case came in shooting and you shot him down, the Church would promote you to Rear Admiral.... Oops, sorry, that'd be a Catholic Church promotion.. either way, you'd get Plumbing Contracts. Maybe a new Business sign: "We Plug Bad-Guy's, Bess Plumbing in Utah".

That's interesting. A year ago in my little town, during an LDS Sunday service, a guy left the service and walked to his house a couple of blocks away. In a few minutes he returned, went back into the church and shot and killed one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. In front of at least 50 people. The guy he killed had been trying to help the shooter through some rough times but apparently made him angry. Rumors abound as to motive including one that he had a hit list of fellow church goers he wanted dead. If there were a list of places I carry concealed churches and other gun free zones are at the top.

I actually have some very good friends who are LDS. I respect them. I am not at all bothered by LDS people. I'm bothered by stupid people and no single denomination has a corner on that market.

The Fallon shooter was the primary reason the LDS church banned guns. Just say'n. I carry concealed most every where I go because I believe bad things happen where people congregate. Having said that if someplace like a church doesn't want weapons.. I'll respect that. Just won't go to church.. Whew! Got outta those 2 hour meetings.. Yes!

"Not sure I grasp BHA motivation".

I was going to make a thread on this yesterday. I'm going to ask my bishop if I will get excommunicated for carrying a gun to church. I've only carried to church once or twice but now I may be more inclined to do so. I do have a really big mental hang up, If you want me to do something, just tell me that I can't.

Nothing more than a policy to protect against future lawsuits. Unfortunately they have to cater to the lowest common denominator because there is always that one person who ruins it for everyone. The church is a massive 15 million person organization. Lawyers are always lined up to sue them into oblivion.
It also helps to know this has been the case for well over two decades. They just changed the wording to make it more clear. I don't agree with it myself, even though I'm exempt from ut however, too many people lay in wait to jump on this church and others.

That's interesting. I bet if the church had been more vocal about not allowing guns that guy in Fallon wouldn't have come in there and killed anyone. That family would still have their dad/grandfather. Right?
