I got lucky and drew another archery elk tag in AZ! I'll head down there a couple times before the season starts to scout but am somewhat familiar with the unit as I hunted 11m a few years back. Just curious on anyone who has hunted it before in regards to crowding in the unit? I know up top at fry and Rogers there will be people and anything on the border of the rez. I'm also tempted on looking down lower, in the high desert stuff north of cottonwood? I know most elk won't be there yet but if there are some down there I'm guessing they won't have lots of pressure .

SPARKY.........YOU WILL GET BETTER INFO. IF YOU PLACE THIS THREAD IN THE ARIZONA SECTION BY FAR. ..............YD.

Yeah you're right, it's an army base, but you still can't hunt that part of the unit , and i heard people will congregate towards that border because a lot of elk go back and forth from the camp to Rogers Lake area.

There is a recent video from the Mountain Project on youtube that is an early muzz elk hunt on 6B I think. They are hunting some low country .

If you hunt the low country you will find elk. And some big bulls. It's like finding a needle in a haystack though. And there will be a hunting competition. A couple years ago I spent the entire season in the low country. The lesson I learned that year was to hunt closer to the summer range because there are just so many more elk up there.

Thanks for the insight ! I think I'll end up in the higher country too. I was just worried about it being crowded, but I'll go where the elk are, I'm sure I'll be able to find some spots where the roads aren't !

SPARKY1088 Where there are no roads there will be ATVs.
Can't get away from them.I had to hike into no mans land, and over fences to get away.Only then did I start seeing game.
Good Luck...dirtclod Az.

get away from the people, i was in there last year and there is a ton of big bulls in here, you need to do you homework and you will have success, pm if you have any questions.

How?s it goin, so I've been doing a ton of research and have a pretty good idea on a few places I'll be scouting . I got some good info from a couple hunters who have hunted it in the past. The only thing is is sounds difficult to get to far away from people unless you go into the wilderness areas and I'm not sure if elk will be in there? Either way I'm hoping to be able to locate a couple nice bulls before the opener.

Good luck! Nothing like chasing bulls in the rut.

Nope, just a little piece of private up on top with some water in it. I haven't been to close to the depot yet , I'm guessing it's swarminh with people

First, nice bull! I have the same tag this year and have scouted the unit pretty hard (this summer and every archery deer season for the last 10 years). Would you mind if I PM you with a couple questions?

Real nice bull. Congratulations
