Unfortunately, 521 has gone to hell. The success rates are in the toilet. Are you hunting private land?

No. I have never hunted elk before and a friend of ours has been going out there for about 30 years and recommended it to us. I honestly don't know anything about the area so I've been trying to do some research on Google Earth and forums like this to find out what I can find out. I'm not afraid to hike a few miles off the road and I'm looking for any information that might help me find a spot to have a decent chance at bagging one

521 is a good elk area. Just as good as any for Colorado over the counter. Don?t let people distract your research. 521 is much more conducive to elk than deer. Have a good time.

Ya, don't let the facts distract your research. All you need to do is look at the dramatic drop in success rates to get a good idea of what is happening in the unit.
