Elk Refuge Mounted Sheds

I'd never been to Jackson Hole, WY to visit the elk refuge, and I had an opportunity to do so recently. I thought I'd share some "elk shed porn" from the visitor center/museum there of two of the mounted shed sets on display there! I was especially enamored with the largest set ever found there, not only the mass, but the inside spread. ENJOY!:)

Did it say when the sheds were picked up?

Super cool that an animal of that size can make it through multiple hunting seasons. Maybe it was a Yellowstone bull.

Thanks for sharing.

I saw the bull several times on the refuge close to the Gros Ventre River. Bull was unbelievable. We had no doubt he was a 400+ class bull!

The world record according to the Boone and Crockett scores a messily 442 5/8. So this shed set would outscore the world record by 20.
The spider bull that everyone thinks was ranch raised was 478 5/8.

I'd only shoot them the last day of the season, i like to hold out for something big.

Said no hunter ever.

"Brutus" is the bull in your top picture. His biggest set of sheds was 3 winters ago, 2 years ago he had regressed some and was closer to 410, and finally last winter he was found dead on the refuge scoring 405" with 54" inside spread. I watched him for 5 winters that i know of where he was over 400". His two largest years, his 7th point actually switched horns which was interesting. He was one of kind for sure, i sure miss watching him this year.

That picture of him facing the camera is awesome shot.

Brutus!

If I remember right those aren't his sheds, that was the year he was found dead on the refuge

))))----------->

So. That means there was a guy bigger than Brutus "once upon a time" on the refuge? Brutus was probably more well-known and photographed than an earlier bull. Still, any elk over 400" has to be pretty impressive, and from what I've seen of video and stills, he was all that!;-)

I was just there in Feb. for the first time.
You have your score wrong. I am pretty sure it was 434, definitely not 468. I can't quite make it out for sure in the picture I took.

Thanks. Others pointed out this was probably not the same shed antlers as those from Brutus as well. I have seen hundreds of huge elk shed mounts in various venues as RMEF elk tours, Sportsmen's Warehouse, the old Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, etc. and there were a lot of pretty impressive-looking ones. These just struck me as pretty massive and wide! As I stated any over 400 inch are awesome to me!;-)
