Hello everyone,

I drew for NM Unit 34 archery 1st hunt. I started scouting last week in cloudcroft. Spent time near Weed and went all they way up near the reservation. . Im completely new to the area. This will be my first time hunting with a bow and first tag for elk . I have never been successful in any previous hunt with rifle. If anybody can point me in the right direction and help a fellow increase the chances of being successful I would very much appreciate it. I can IM you with what I have seen so far and what places Ive looked at. Thank you

There are elk everywhere in 34. You will have a few cows in estrus getting the bulls fired up but it will be inconsistent during the first part of the hunt. If you can find a decent water source hunt that the early part. Use google maps, find an area that looks like it will have elk in it, there will be elk in it..
