Curious to hear from anyone that has had this tag in the last couple of years. My teenage son drew this tag and I hear it has changed a lot over the ears. How was your experience? What do you wish you would have known before or what would you have changed? Guided or DIY?

Thanks

My son had it when he was about 14 years old. We just drove around in a truck. I warned him it would not be a fun hunt. It was a meat hunt about it.

My dad had a tag several years ago. It was a blast. Nothing funner than dogging herds of cows with trucks, bouncing them back and forth between other groups of hunters until all tags were filled ? sad to hear it's been toned down since then.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-11-19 AT 12:05PM (MST)[p]Practice on his shooting skills. You draw blood and you're done.

Had the tag last year went on the guided and did their shooting class. We got our elk. Send me a pm I can tell you more

We hunted last year- guided and shooting class. Was my son's second hunt out there for cow elk and my second. Was a good real hunt- my son had to work for his cow and after a long stock in some steep stuff he made a great long shot. Had to work on my also. The guides are great guys and well worth it for them to help get the elk out for you. You can pm. We have also done the doe antelope out there.

The way it should be everywhere....

I have never had a tag in my name. However, I have been on this hunt probably 8-10 times with my sons when they were under 18 years old. The hunts were awesome for a youth to get them experience and the guides were always awesome with them and myself. My son's always filled their tags and then we would hang with the guides as they helped the other guides and client with their hunt on that day. I enjoyed these hunts with my son's better then if I was hunting myself!!!

Great memories, teaching experience and always ended the year with meat in the freezer :)

Wow funny with different perspectives, if chasing elk around in the snow in a beatup pickup with your head hitting the roof on every turn is fun, don't sign me up. I can't think of a worse hunt with my son in the past ten years.
