Dayton Washington elk hunt unit 162

Good bulls are still available in the Dayton unit, but it is not what it was 10 years ago. There are wolves in the unit and a couple years ago a significant winter that reduced the elk numbers a bit.
Be prepared to hunt steep and deep crap holes for bulls. Scout as much as possible to find tough to get to places where elk go to get away from hunters. Probably more info on this unit on
www.hunting-washington.com
do a search on there

Also private land with a mix of timbered draws and farm ground holds bulls too, if you can get permission to hunt there.

I know the unit well. Have hunted for spikes the last 5 years to learn the unit for when I draw. Have also helped tag holders harvest some pretty nice bulls every year. What weapon did you draw? A 340? bull is still do able in the unit with also a few big boys still roaming. I have personally seen the elk numbers dropping the last 5 years with the wolve numbers increasing and the native hunting that takes place. Get in shape now the elevation and hills will take a toll on you.
