Hello,

I have an outfitter (wild west outfitters) committed but he has a bear tag at the same time and might be tied up. I would like some other recommendations for an Elk packout if I'm successful during the archery hunt and can't get a hold of him. Let me know who I can contact for a backup or 2. I'm too old and want no part of packing an elk out of that place.

thanks,

I might be able to help out. If Wild West is busy. Depending on when you are down there. Give me a call and let's talk about your plans. 4355903695

HighTop outfitter out of Richfield knows the county very well and may be down there with clients as well he would maybe help you out.

I just got back from a few days of hunting up there. It's still way hot and the rut is non existent. I haven't heard a bugle yet. So far I've seen about 45-50 different bulls and only a hand full were somewhat decent 320-330. Tons of Raghorns everywhere. They are just feeding with no intent to start rutting. The problem is I haven't seen a cow elk, not one. Hopefully things change, the rut starts and some cows show up or I'm pretty much screwed. If not I will have to do a 3 mile spot and stalk and get lucky or sit on a wallow and pray a big sucker comes in. I thought it was going to be a good year to have a tag but I'm not so sure or I just suck at hunting. Since I will never have this tag again in my lifetime any help or your honey hole would be appreciated. thanks

Unlock your PM and I'll help you with some information you may find useful.

Your finding a ton of bulls and that's a good thing. Once the bulls have cows they are way harder to sneak up and the herd bulls rarely come to calls. So keep finding those bulls and hopefully you will find one by himself, fat and lazy and not running around like a chicken with 20 cows to tend to. Sneak up on him taking a nap and put an arrow in his boiler room.

Call Ole....+1 (435) 893-1437. He can pack anything out on the whole mountain and is fairly priced. Dutton can be a beast to pack one out of.

The hunt didn't end well for me.

I received news that my Dad passed away early first thing on Wed morning 09/11. I didn't keep hunting and chose to come home to be with my family.

Sorry to hear that. What a bummer. Maybe you can return the tag and get your points back???
