BH209

Yes depending you technique for measuring. I was able to get an average of 82 grains by weight when using a T/C U-View measurer set 100 grains by volume. You should also be aware that weight will vary between lots. The rumor is they have fixed the variation issue in the latest lot (lot 30.

Hello Stuart how you doing?
My Load is 80 gr. Blackhorn 209 by weight and 290 gr. Barnes TMZ. My gun is fairly light and that load packs all the wallop I want. I was thinking it's more like 114 gr. volume though.

My gun is set up for Nevada so open sites only. I run a Williams adjustable Peepsight on the rear and a Lyman globe on the front.
With my load I am zeroed at 175 yards.
At 100 yards I hit 5 inches high.
At 150 yards I hit 3 inches high
At 175 yards I hit the bull?s-eye
200 yards I hit 3 inches low
225 yards I hit 5 inches low.
I have a chart taped to my stock to remind me where to hold at those ranges.
Beyond 225 yards I have another chart ( if I have the time ) that tells me how much to adjust my rear sight depending on the range out to 350 which is my max.
Otherwise at 250 I am about 11 inches low and at 300 about 21 inches low and 350 around 31 inches low
I don't have a chronograph but I think I'm around 1800 ft./s muzzle velocity
I hope this helps. Good luck

Yep, that is why I always premeasure my loads by weight. Using 0.7 gr by weight to 1.0 gr by volume is what Western Powder also recommends. Some say it does not make a difference, but nobody at Friendship loads by volume, well nobody that wins loads by volume.

You should weigh every charge. I do this before I leave the house. 84gr. Test tubes. It isnt hard. Pretend you're handloading for a benchrest competition.

If I usually use 90 grains of BH powder in my CVA V2 then I could multiply by .7 and use this figure by weight? If I would weigh out accurately 63.7 grains of BH this amount would be the equivalent to the 90 grains by volume?

Bluff, your usual load of 84 grains (by weight) of BH powder is equal to what by volume? Is your load equal to 120 grains of BH by volume measure?

84 is about 120, or a hair under. I don't really care about volume because it isn't an accurate measure of the velocity you get.
shot today, getting 1850fps with 300gr Thor from a 24" barrel.
12 shots with blackhorn and can still load the full bore bullet easily with blackhorn, can't do that with most BP substitutes.

100Gr BH by Volume is what in weight 140?

It should be 70 grains by weight. Weight should be less then volume with BH209.

Thanks
