My son purchased a CVA Optima V2 recently and I would like to get him accessories for Christmas. He and I are new to muzzleloaders so I have no idea what kind of tools and gadgets that he'll need. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

A quality zip up range bag for all the stuff you accumulate, speed loaders, a separate nice long range rod, extra cleaning materials and solvents, breech plug wire brush cleaner, a set of nipple picks (from welding section in hardware store). Lots of stuff to choose from.

I would get him a good peep if it doesn't have one. Unless you only hunt where scopes are legal then scratch the peep

A second vote for a peep sight. A few different brands of bullets could be useful to see what shoots best.

I would seriously consider getting a breech plug that will shoot blackhorn 209 powder. Unless it happened to come with one, you will have to order that. I don't own a CVA but unless they changed their "basic" set up, the one that comes with the gun won't work for that powder.

Advantages of Blackhorn 209: Mainly, you don't have to clean between each shot. With basically all the other powders, you really need to do a spit patch and dry patch between each shot. with Blackhorn, you just keep shooting until you go home and then you clean it up.
