beaning a resident of Washington where we can't use scopes I'm looking for recommendations to put on a muzzleloader that I will use in Arizona on an elk hunt. Thanks in advance

LAST EDITED ON Mar-12-19 AT 10:43PM (MST)[p]There are scopes out just for Muzzleloaders. I have a Nikon on my old smoke pole. It has a bdc reticle set up for black powder guns. I believe Leupold and Vortex may have them out as well. My new muzzleloader scope is going to be a Vortex viper gen 2. So we can dial in our yardage. Although I do not know the laws for scoped muzzleloaders in Arizona.

I guess I'd say I don't have enough info. What unit, thick cover or open pines? Open meadows or across canyon shot. What is your anticipated shot distance and how good are you with the front stuffer? Lastly, what rifle are you going to put it on?

I'd go into my gun cabinet and take out the 4X, 6X, or 3-9X I liked the most and that will be perfect out to 200+ yards. Then practice until it was time to hunt.

unit 9 Arizona I do have a Leopold VX3 3.5x10 I could take off a gun I don't use. Shot distance probably within 200 yards being a rut hunt.

That would be perfect for that unit/hunt. My buddy killed a 380" bull last year in 9 with Steve Chappell on the muzzy hunt. You can see it if you look up Steve's Elk Camp TV show.

hunting with the same outfit how do I find the video or pictures of your buddies bull it was rifle in 2018 or am I mistaken

LAST EDITED ON Mar-13-19 AT 08:56PM (MST)[p]Should be able to look up ?Elk Camp TV?. They had links to videos. Friends name is Bob Saban.

When I said last year, I was thinking 2017. I'm old and thinking of 2018 as this year still. Haha

I have a Simmons fixed 4X shotgun scope on both my ML's. Probably had it 15 years with no issues. It has lots of eye relief. I got tired variable scopes pounding my forehead.
With that said, my ML hunting is on eastern whitetails. About 125 yards is as far as I'll shoot. Not because of the scope, but because the 300 grain bullet with 100 gr of bp drops quickly beyond 125.

is Bob hunting with camo muzzleloader in 2017 elk pictures on Chappel webb site 4th down on the left side?

Awesome tag congrats. The shot will most likely be close during the rut on 9. Low power like 2x7 would be perfect IMO. Leupold Vari X 1 2x7 would be hard to beat and inexpensive.

I'm running the Leupold ultra slam made for muzzleloader . I have a set of leupold quick release mounts that make so I can remove the scope and mount your open sight during season here.
