Just curious on advice or comments I would get from this: (This was last year, prior to the closed season going into effect, so I was ok then). What would you do (including game biologists/game wardens)? Driving around looking for deer to videotape or photograph, I encountered this nice shed, but to pick it up, keep it or hide it as a "stash", I have committed an illegal act.Really hard to leave it for the next person who might be more inclined to ignore the law.

That thing is not big enough to jeopardize your good-standing with wildlife dept. I wouldnt grab it.

But as we all know - you can violate the hell out of game laws and penalties are basically a slap on wrist! It comes down to your own morals.

It's a leaverite. As it isn't the only shed in the mountains, you can pick up many other sheds when legal, through the entire summer and into hunting season. I should maybe rob the convenience store before the next guy decides too?

My current situation precludes me from caring about your opinion but go ahead and give voice to it anyway...

Last year my dog was bringing fresh browns up for me to make a fuss over and I had to ignore her. Never know when the green gestapo might be looking from a distance. Once i sat on a rock while she chomped down an entire forky.

It has to rank as one of the dumbest laws ever, a total closure would be fine but its stupid to make bending over illegal, i thought they like to make us bend over.

Definitely do not take it with you.

What does the specific law prohibit? Gathering? Touching? Being in possession of? Picking up? Removing?

My guess it that you could "slide" it into the bushes with your foot or a stick and be safe according the technical language in the law.

You can't pick it up, but you could drop an old branch or piece of brush on top of it. Then come back when it's legal and maybe it will still be there?

One positive thing the closed season did though, is get rid of large camps where people were riding all over the place, chasing deer, gridding, tearing up the country, etc. When I did go out,and near some of my spots near water sources/springs, there seemed to be ATV tracks on almost every ridgetop, or in the washes. Doesn't seem to be the case so much now. It will be interesting to see what happens on the opening day!

I follow all laws in life except shed laws. I would put that shed in the truck and continue on.

Now with my post you're probably thinking I oppose shed seasons. I don't, I just don't abide by them.

Good luck this spring!

Dig a hole near, around and under the brown gold. Shed falls in. Bury it. GPS it. Pick up later.

Just my 2 cents nice little brown gps the location & kick that horn over to the closest tree or big ass chunk of sage & leave it be until the opener . You dint pick it up or lay hands on it !! More than likely the next guy that comes down that road & sees it its GONE

Ya!

Bet that's the Only F'N Law You've ever Broke!

I know so many people in so many places
They make allot of money but they got sad faces

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

It is funny how only one guy admitted that he would pick it up and everybody else would be Law Abiding Citizens.

So the odds show that from this survey, 90% of the people wouldn't pick it up but most seem to think they better hide it because the next guy down the road will probably take it.

Why is that...

Shed Hunting has got to be the most Jealous hobby I have every seen. It completely possess people and they only have one thing in mind. "Get the Horn" It actually worse than the hunt itself.

Right,.,. I love shed hunting.. And the sad truth about what you said is that 90% of if is all about the CASH now too. If there wasn't a $$$$ market for sheds we would be a much happier world.

It really is Crazy how cut throat it is. I fell into this Obsession in the Late 90's early 2000's. I would watch bucks from November on until they dropped and then I couldn't sleep for months trying to find them on the ground. It really consumed me like a Crazy Addiction. Just look at how many people will give up their hunting spot on the Web well before they would give up their shed Spots. Matter of Fact, I have never seen anyone give up their shed spot to a stranger. I had to quit doing this for it was not good on me. I still go out but not anywhere like I used to.

Even the Utah DWR closed the season down one year using the reason that they didn't want the animals harassed during a decent winter. I mean they didn't close down snowmobiling or skiing or work, but the shut down shed hunters. IMO is was just straight jealousy.

I would be really surprised if anyone would leave this Antler on the ground if the season hadn't started yet. It is a Crazy Obsession for Sure.

I love piling up sheds on my property, I don't care for how commercial it has gotten. Hence my position.

Looks like pretty bare ground. I'm sure that guy was really pushing the deer around. lol. All of you shed regulation proponents better stop and ask yourself what's next? In today's political climate those clamoring for more regulations, more restrictions may just one day find themselves regulated off their public lands.
