LAST EDITED ON Apr-06-19 AT 11:30AM (MST)[p]Two teenage boys were found hiking around Millville face WMA pushing the elk higher into the snow where it was up to their chest.
These kids knew they were caught and wouldn't come down after dark. They were in shorts and I hope they froze

I don't have Facebook, did they get a hefty fine for harassing wintering wildlife ?

Still waiting on an update. They knew they were caught and wouldn't come off the mountain. And they were in shorts. :)

Another group was caught today after picking up a gps antler. Both groups had photos taken and vehicle plate numbers taken.

DWR is inserting gps trackers into sheds and waiting for them to be picked up out of season.
Tracker is the same one used on the fish they tag.
Drill a hole in the antler, insert tracker, use some saw dust and glue to plug the hole.
They set it out and wait for it to move before the season opens

I was stopped in Wyoming a couple of years back, it was opening day of shed season, the officer that I spoke to told us that they also used gps, said they had lots of complaints in prior years of old boot tracks before the 1st and they were focusing more on shed poachers than in years past

A teenage kid told me the other day about shed hunting the public land around Echo. I told him it was a closed WMA and he said "What does that mean". It really sucks that we have to deal with both idiots that don't know rules and can't read signs, and then the cheaters that just don't care. I know the CO up there does everything he can, but he needs help.

If you see someone hiking a WMA early, please report it and use your phoneskopes to capture it so something can be done.

This is getting ridiculous!

Where was this posted on facebook? I click the link and it won't let me see the post. I see people going up there early every year but nothing is ever done when I report it.

I'd guess the post was taken down. It goes nowhere for me as well.

I checked it out a few days ago and it appears the people were caught. I think the DWR guy was standing there with the guys that called them in watching them through spotters. There was a guy and a girl, both had at least 6 elk sheds (12 total). They were also hauling some deadheads. I assume since the DWR waited for them at the car, they were busted. However, from the sound of it they played the "I didn't know" card, and probably got a small fine and were sent on their way.

Was posted on Northern Utah hunting and fishing
This took place on Millville WMA.
I guess multiple people were caught on multiple days.
They were caught from the updates I've seen

Seems like a lot of issues there. How is it posted? Is it posted properly? Maybe confusion between the opening day elsewhere and a wildlife management area?

Went up to the Millville WMA parking area today. I saw shed hunters and hikers everywhere. At least 15-20 cars. The posted signs say that it is closed "through" the second Saturday in April. That would mean tomorrow, Sunday!!! Also on the DWR website under the hunt maps tables it says the area is closed "through" the second Saturday in April!! Why isn't everyone being ticketed??? Through mean including. If my milk is good through the second Saturday of April it means it's good through that day. So the law is to not access it through all of a Saturday. Wow.....

Ask a game warden. I have hiked and hunted millville WMA for year. The second Saturday of April the face opens and at 12:00am the shed hunting for that face begins. Wardens have bee. There multiple times on that second Saturday and no tickets were given unless they saw someone accessing early. So sorry but you are incorrect. They are legal to hike that WMA that day.

Hey look the DWR just updated the website and now it reads the following.

https://dwrapps.utah.gov/ram/start2

"The WMA is closed from Jan. 1 and opens on the second Saturday in April to protect wintering big game animals."

I hope they change the signs up there from "through" to "opens." There's a huge difference if you understand the English language. Thanks for letting me know people were going up on a different day. Now we're all on the same page.
