That is a stud buck-congrats!! I am applying this year in AZ to hunt Coues deer for the first time ever & cant wait. Will probably end up with the Nov 29-Dec 8 tag.

Any tips for a newbie?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-07-19 AT 07:22PM (MST)[p]This deer was killed during that hunt. My tips are glass until your eyes feel like they're going to bleed..... and then glass some more. The beauty about coues deer is usually its for sure draws. If you don't have a tripod for your binoculars get, one those two items together are the most important tool you can have. The weather that time of year is very unpredictable just because its southern az don't think you wont freeze your ass off. We had rain and snow that hunt and horrible wind. The wind can really screw you as for the deer bed and stay bedded. What kind of binos do you have.

Thanks for the info!! I have 10x42?s on a tripod but plan to borrow or rent some 15?s as well. Also have a 16-45x65 Vortex Razor sporting scope.

Looking forward to it. Are there angles & locations you focus on glassing in morning & evening? I have heard it is sometimes successful to get up high and glass lower in the flats & lower country. Do you agree?

Personally i try and setup to glass east facing slopes at first light. I think the deer typically like to get the sun first thing and then usually bed down. After around 10 or so they will all be bedded then I typically try and glass under every tree possibly to try and pick up bedded deer. I think generally the deer are on their way out of the bottom at first light and headed up to bed on steep ridges that are pretty safe. Ideally you can glass something up first thing then bed them and you have all day to try and close the gap. Usually about half way through the day they will get up and reposition or move a little bit because the sun has exposed them. So typically thats when you close the deal. So be ready. If you find one bedded and can tell they will be in the sun soon get ready. They will stand and give you a shot.

This was my nephews buck from i think 2 years ago. I think we kind of ruined him. He doesn't realize deer like that arnt under every tree.

Amazing buck!! I am sure he is ruined now, but I'm ok with being ruined like that on my first Coues hunt ???

Thanks for all the good info & tips. I am very excited to finally hunt these deer!
