The reason I ask if they are legal is because they are not legal where I am. Cabelas has salt licks but they are pricey. If you go to a feed store you get way more for your money.

Where they run cows on the mountain you will find salt blocks, the ranchers always put out a bunch for the cows, But the deer and elk don't mind use them either.
