Going to buy my 8yr old a Weatherby youth rifle. Can?t decide between these two caliber?s, will either caliber perform or not perform better than the other with a 20 inch barrel?

I'd get the 7-08 for a 20"....264 wm takes more barrel.....

I have both a 6.5 Creedmoor and a 7mm-08. Both do about the same, but I like the 1 in 8 twist barrel on the 6.5 Creedmoor for shooting the high b.c. bullets. The popularity of the 6.5 Creedmoor has also made ammo available everywhere and knocked the price down
on it. ce61

It's probably a toss-up for deer but the 7-08 gets the nod if elk is thrown into the mix.

Well done.

Which 6.5 are you referring to? If the cartridges you are comparing have similar case capacity, the larger caliber will be more efficient with the shorter barrel.

I got a 7-08 with a 20? brl for my daughter a couple of years ago and there is a lot of flexibility when you reload.
I am getting 2900-3000fps with 120grn Barnes bullets with mild loads. Also get a limb saver recoil pad or equivalent that alone makes a big difference in felt recoil.

Cheers
