Crossbow?

Most of my life I was an avid archery hunter and 3D shooter, but a few years ago I sustained an injury that has left my left arm/shoulder disabled. I used to view crossbows as ?cheating? and said I would never use one, however, I badly miss bow hunting and have decided to give it a go. Sorry for the soapbox, anyone with experience on what to look for or avoid would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Here in Illinois crossbow hunting has really took hold. I am 72 years old and still able to use my compound bow but also have and use a crossbow. We take a lot of does and use the meat for tablefare and especially to make deer sausage. The actual hunting experience is not as challenging but still really fun and exciting. You can hunt from the ground or use a stand 10 or 12 ft above the ground. It is a way for someone not physically able to do a wheel or traditional bow to enjoy the hunt. When I am hunting where I think I might encounter a really good buck I take my compound bow.
In the mid price range you can't beat a 10 point bow. The more you spend the better the bow. For somewhat under $1000. you can get a smooth, quiet accurate bow with narrow limbs....from a stand narrow limbs is a big deal.
Have fun and good luck.

Don't get me wrong. If I cannot handle a compound bow I would be more than happy to hunt elk with a crossbow. If you do you will have the same exact experience as far as the excitement of the hunt. As we get older or lose our ability to accurately shoot "regular" bows we have to adapt.

Good point
Better to make a good shot with a cross bow than bad shot with a real bow

Use them both, and enjoy both. Different purposes for them. I love to shoot hundreds of arrows a day with my vertical compounds and recurves. Just more enjoyable to me. Shooting more than a half dozen shots at each range out to 70-80 yards with a scoped XBow gets boring. A little heavier and more unwieldy than my compound, and lots more movement when recocking the xbow.

I have never shot one
Do you think a cross bow would be effective for elk hunting
Due to shoulder injury, can no longer pull a bow
